I do approve of the storm motion of that cluster near and east of DC. Hopefully it continues to expand.
Kmlwx
This is one of the weirder storm days in recent memory. Between the storm motions, the outflow not doing much in large parts of the area earlier - and now nocturnal storms.
09-10 analogy
Coupla decent-looking cells commuting into DC along 395; if I put on my severe wx weenie googles the northernmost looks like it's got a tiny little notch. EDIT: Naah, it really doesn't. But there is distant thunder and the occasional flash off to the SW.
Kmlwx
This activity looks like decent lightning producer(s). I'm guessing this stuff is elevated at this time of evening, though.

09-10 analogy
The growling is getting louder and more frequent, and I don't have to be looking in the direction of the storms to see the flashes now. This is actually kinda neat, if it turns out to be any type of storm at all. Kind of like hearing the Ennio Morricone score before a Metallica concert.

Stormfly
Best nocturnal lightshow up my way in years! After the main show while looking at some video we started hearing more thunder and went for another round just before midnight. Finally finished processing long videos on youtube. The first round (time at money shot, as everyone loves bolts!): Then the second storm, this view facing south: The audio quality is quite nice, headphones highly recommended! And just a few minutes ago, after checking radar I thought why not, checked the tower PTZ and sure enough that anvil is firing bolts into clear air! I've only seen this from airplane windows. Amazing nocturnal activity for September. 6

Don’t think it amounted to a ton…nearby PWS says 0.36” although I expect CoCoRAHS will show more. Still a good drink for the plants. mattie g
The last two days were some kind of bullshit for MBY in Burke. Got some at about 2:00 this morning as a storm popped over us, but that 10 minutes of rain was it. Hoping we can eke out a bit over the next few days…

Amazing nocturnal activity for September. I remember reading or hearing somewhere that fish tanks are a thing partly because people look at them and feel more relaxed. Well, that’s my reaction to these videos. Watch them and chill. The crickets at the beginning are a nice touch.

Well, that’s my reaction to these videos. Watch them and chill. The crickets at the beginning are a nice touch. In the 90s I had a quest to get the perfect thunderclap captured on digital audio tape. I found it's extremely difficult, expensive, and potentially life threatening too! And too, whether its video or just audio, the best CG that makes you jump comes after the pause button is pressed or you seek shelter and capture stops! At least on land there is proper shelter compared to being on a fairly small vessel taking shelter below deck, shivering while lightning strikes close enough to energize the mast sufficiently that protective spark gaps around you are snapping like firecrackers in a Chinese New Year celebration and that thought crosses your mind...will you wake up the next morning? Aquariums are relaxing but (besides water) have something in common with boats. Smarter people hang out with friends that own them! It's all fun until its time to maintain them.
87storms
Today seems fairly prime for storms. Loving the upslope potential for “team drought”. Sun has broken out in Frederick…warming up quickly. Looks like it’ll be a little “cooler” today, but 80s and humid can get it done.

I'm to your SE, just east of Crofton. I'm sitting in what looks like a perfect spot for a possible flooding situation. I'm bringing in my important plants and I'm hearing rolling thunder in lots of direction.
