MLI had a good shot at approaching record temps today, but they stayed socked in by dense fog by just a few miles.  Just a few miles south the fog lifted and temps were near 60, or about 10 degrees higher than MLI.

You woulda never knew the clearing line was so close, as it was very dark and dismal within that heavy fog bank.

It won’t stop puking snow in Minneapolis.

6” at the midnight observation. Probably an additional 3-4” since then, roads are a complete mess. Trees are bending under the weight of all the snow and we’ve smashed past 40” on the year in the first week of January.

Great news.  Keep it up there.  Ground is bare near MKE.

MSP has had incredible luck so far this season.  Nearly every system has taken the perfect track.  The current upper low could not have stalled in a better spot.

Bone dry in summer, buried in snow in winter. I’ll take it. Our seasonal average is 51.2” which we are rapidly approaching. Over 45” on the season now.

Snow was quick hitting and heavy last night.  Measured 6.7" of 10:1 on the driveway which was scraped clean prior to the snow starting.  The temp hovered around 30 all night... felt oddly warm.

Pretty much every single model paints another foot plus right through here over the next 36 hours, so no reason to doubt it.

Radar returns slowly on the increase but currently it's freezing drizzle.

Radar returns showing a slow westward movement at the moment. Not going anywhere anytime soon.

Winds at the surface, and aloft will be out of the NE, and with temps dropping in CA below zero, that should help enhance, and even convert to straight LES starting tomorrow into Friday am.
