ChescoWx
Merry Christmas to all! Yesterday was the coldest Christmas Eve average temperature since records began in 1894. The average temperature was 7.9 degrees beating the old record of 9.5 set in 1983. Our AM low here in East Nantmeal was 11.2 degrees this is the coldest Christmas low temperature since the 10 degree reading in 1989. We should see below normal temperatures continue through Tuesday. A warming trend will get under way with temps reaching well into the 50's to near 60 by New Year's Day. That warming trend should carry us through the first week of the new year. There are signs of colder weather returning again around the 8th of January. The record high today is 67 from 1964. The record low is 6 below zero set in 1980. Record precipitation is the 1.93" that fell in 2002...of note the rain turned to snow that Christmas morning with 5.8" of snow falling. The record snowfall on Christmas Day is the 13" that fell in 1909 of note that was just the beginning of a 2 day blizzard that would see another 25" falling the day after Christmas for a storm total of 38" that was the 2nd greatest snowstorm in Chester County history - behind only the 45.3" of snow that fell during the February Blizzard of 1899 ending on February 14, 1899. Ralph Wiggum
Clippers really are a thing of lore....our possible light clipper event Tuesday...shredded to oblivion. One of these years we'll see one again. Really....I feel like we used to get 2 or 3 of them like clockwork every year almost. Storm, cold front, reinforcing shot via a clipper.
Ralph Wiggum
If the ens are right might touch 60 between Jan 1-Jan 3. Mixed signals involving a wave riding the boundary under our region centered around the 8th with us potentially on the colder side. Would fit the old Wiggum Rule. Might be the only thing on the horizon to track....blinds are shut until at least the 8th imo but I think our more significant threats come around or after mid month as the split flow out west takes shape and deep stj waves trudge through the deep South before hitting the SER/WAR with cold air finally making a return thanks to the EPO- 1

Albedoman
this post ought to light a fire for the snow weenies. The best analog year to the current weather thus far- 1998. ABE got a whopping 4.5 in total in snowfall for the year . Why this analog? check it below. Looks awful familiar as far as temps and precip go to this year. I guess my 30+ in of snow for this winter in another thread has gone to hell in a hand basket. Love the back loading chances too. Zilcho. It was also the summer from hell with little rain and we were in a major drought. Furthermore 1998 was a La Nina year too and we had no snow in February. https://www.extremeweatherwatch.com/cities/allentown/year-1998
