I know it's for a relatively small, (though highly populated) area, but Buffalo's forecast through early Christmas might be the single craziest one I've ever read for a non-mountainous area. Jebman Posted December 24, 2022 Share Posted December 24, 2022 Reed Timmer has a vid about this latest LES event in Buffalo. Its absolutely crazy! Vis is damn near nonexistent. Winds have been gusting into the seventies in the presence of heavy snow and mid to upper positive single digit temperature conditions. Last night here in south central Texas, we had no snow but it was super cold (at least for us) 12 degrees with northerly wind gusts to 50mph at times. I was delivering for uber eats and it was cold as fook! Wind chills were severe, for us south Texans, down to minus ten. I am not used to this kind of weather anymore! I have now lost all my plants and will start from scratch come spring down here. Its getting so you CAN'T grow citrus here in Texas any more. Climate change is severe and it is changing very very fast, so fast I dont think we can keep up. You guys up in west New York are getting devastated yet again! Note this is not happening one a decade, or once in a generation anymore. It is happening to you once a MONTH! Maybe I'm wrong, but it appears the weather is out of control. Crippling BLIZZARD well underway across the Niagara Frontier with a prolonged period of zero visibility across much of the Buffalo metro area. The Buffalo radar showing a single band of intense snowfall with rates of 2+ inches per hour parked across the Buffalo metro area extending into northwest Genesee, southwest Orleans and southern Niagara counties. The expectation is that the lake band will meander a bit to the north and south, but it appears that it will remain parked across the Buffalo metro area tonight through Saturday, and will not start to drift south until Saturday night. As for the winds, surface pressure over southern Ontario will continue to intensify to around 961mb tonight as it wobbles into Quebec. Peak wind gusts have already exceeded 70 mph across parts of western New York today and most guidance suggests that even stronger winds are possible tonight, before starting to very gradually subside during the day Saturday. The combination of the lake snows and intense winds will maintain the blizzard conditions across the Niagara Frontier through at least the day Saturday. From an outside perspective, high end tropical storm conditions associated with intense snow bands parked over a major metro area for a day or 2 spells absolute disaster but I could be wrong. Vicarious Posted December 24, 2022 Share Posted December 24, 2022 I've snow plowed for almost 10 years now and this is the first time I'm completely unable to leave my house because of the conditions. Even in 2014 I managed to carefully make my way to each parking lot. I've never seen this low of visibility for this long of duration. I'm hoping for the band to push north a bit more for a little while so I can get a small window to try to get to a few places before the snow gets to out of control. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
