Thursday's snow showers on the backside of the low will be our first flakes in a month.

3-6" around the TH area this morning. Co-op observer right on the shore recorded only 1", which is not unexpected. About 3" imby. Reports from Duluth, and Brimson have around 8". Excellent snowman snow. Heavier band just moved in, so starting to accum much quicker again. Blizzard warnings for the shore, and head of the lake are a little over blown. Not quite that bad.

Snow bands have moved north. About 5" here in town. Very heavy stuff. From now on, the lake will have to put up in order to hit those big totals NWS Duluth put out. Don't think that'll happen, but we'll see how it goes the next couple days.

MKX has really upped the totals since yesterday. Went from a trace to 1 to now 2-5 in Madison and 3-6 north. Pretty good uptrend and it'll be nice to have an actual snowpack down in most of the area.

1.20" here since yesterday with up to an inch possible tonight.  We're at 48 degrees currently, but could flip to wet snow by midnight.

Quite the pattern across the country this evening...

Broad trough across the Inter-Mountain West and Central US, with a vertically stacked low centered in Sioux Falls area. You can see the next wave on WV imagery in the vicinity of Arkansas this evening, already amplifying as it goes negative tilt, with a nice divergent flow aloft as well.

Def can't rule it out.  I'm guessing that's overdone but at the least should get a quick period of wet snow after 10 or 11pm.

Raining hard enough to hear it on the roof.  Picked up 0.32" already this evening.

MSP only picked up 0.42” of precipitation from phase 1 of this system, which was below the low end of most model guidance. 0.16” of that was snow, far less liquid precipitation then forecast. Core of metro got shafted on snowfall last night but it looks like a quick 4-6” is in order overnight and tomorrow. I’m guessing the snow water equivalent will be less then 10-1.

Snow reforming from the SE. Could be a fairly steady light/mod snow tonight. 12-15" totals being reported this afternoon away from the lake.

Down to 38 with steady rain continuing.  Up to 0.73" for the evening.

Should see snow mix in very shortly.

Nice, and you have a long night of precip to go as well, should do well there.  Back edge of precip a few hours away from here, so may just get a quick dusting to perhaps a quick inch if it can rip hard enough.

Probably 80/20 snow/rain here with very large flakes.  Big enough they are tripping the back security light.

Tonight's 0.95" rain brings the two-day total to 2.15".  Best soaker since September.

Still snowing, but smaller flake size as of late combined with warm ground is slowing accumulation.  Still dusting up on grassy/elevated surfaces though.

Meanwhile up here by Green Bay it is still raining. It's been pouring all night with no real sign of changeover. Just constant rainfall while areas no more than 20 miles west are puking snow. Love it, I really just love it.

Lol yeah.  You could tell this really wasn't too far away from being a big event if timing was a little different.

Lost power at 3 am. Lines arcing behind the house. Tree over the lines or something. Brilliant green flashes with the arcing sound. Fired up my Aladdin oil lamps, and turned on the gas stove for heat. It always feels like the hunting shack when I have to do that. Sit, and smoke with some Mtn Dew, and snacks for something to do while listening to the wind, and watching the snow fall out the window. A beer or cocktail would be in hand in my younger days.  

It's 4:30 am now, and it looks like about 3" more fell. Very wet, heavy stuff. Compacts quickly. Inland is just a little cooler, so more gets squeezed out, especially with the orographic lifting.

Huge bust on the snow as I called it.  All local mets forecasting 3-5" and it puked rain all night.

Very similar event to last Friday, with roads plowed/plows in action from basically northern McHenry County on up.
