Would you post a final total from there once the storm ends completely? I think they're expecting another 3-5"? It's also fascinating to see the difference with only 4" around I-80 in NE PA and 7.4" at MPO just slightly to the north (and much higher elevation). And only around 3" around Lehighton! They definitely have a shadowing effect from the Poconos nearby as well as the lower elevation. Central PA can get messed up so many different ways in winter storms especially over the last 15 years when big miller A type storms became more rare, which is how they get their big time storms-the March 1993 type storms. It’s honestly better here on Long Island than Central PA these days. I hope folks noticed how good the GFS was on positive snow amount, at least in the gradient. Cyclically was VERY good. To me: this is winter as it should be ...we'll have some snow cover here in the elevations daily for awhile. Those who said Dec would be a colder snowier start (at least interior), looks like they will be correct. Overall: I think NWS snow amount numbers will work out well I81 N-S corridor eastward. NepaJames8602 Posted December 16, 2022 Share Posted December 16, 2022 Going to say 7.0” total here from last night in my part of the Poconos, Newfoundland, Wayne county. Elevation 2,075’ feet. I’m 30 minutes N/Nw of Mt Pocono, and around 200 to 300 feet higher in elevation than them. So their 7.4” total seems accurate. It’s extremely hard to measure this stuff after it compacted and turned to sleet/freezing rain late last night. It’s now snowing moderately on the back end and I have already received an additional inch. So going with a storm total of 8.0” so far, and maybe another couple hours to go.
