Moderate to heavy rain for the last hour has been fairly continuous. Total is now up to 1.36" in Fort Salonga in NW Suffolk (adjacent to LI Sound). Looks like it might let up soon, but hard to say when it will end. Looked at the rainfall totals on RadarScope and radar is showing significantly less than what we have gotten.

Morning thoughts…

Today will be partly sunny and warm. High temperatures will reach the upper 60s and lower 70s in most of the region. Likely high temperatures around the region include:

New York City (Central Park): 68°

Newark: 69°

Philadelphia: 71°

Much cooler air will move into the region early next week.

Normals:

New York City: 30-Year: 65.1°; 15-Year: 66.0°

Newark: 30-Year: 66.6°; 15-Year: 67.9°

Philadelphia: 30-Year: 67.9°; 15-Year: 68.7°

Drought diminishing - we'll see it in next Thursdays 10/20 post. Here are prelim 1 day CoCoRaHs maps, and a 2 day total from the NYS mesonet. Some spots only 0.4" but many 1-3".

Wantage NJ my Ambient 2.52 but two stratus official CocoRaHs stations 2.39" which I think is more accurate (I am not a CoCoRaHs observer).

I'll get two day totals up around 9A via CoCoRahs.  More coming this coming Monday the 17th. Whether we will see iso 4" two event totals, probably not but still tbd.

Later, Walt

Correct: Digital radar totals were less than reality all day.

We had some heavy rain here in SW Long Island too between 9-12 AM.  That was plenty of rain, we don't need any more.

See below. You're still in moderate and 60 miles away I'm in severe drought. These deficits won't be erased with a few rainy days.

That last map is too vague, it's more than a half inch high where I am.
