She was shown methodologies of 2 specialists. The first would sever the Achilles to access the spurs, then reattach it after removing the spurs. The second would split the tendon lengthwise and spread it to get access. She chose door #2, mainly because the sever/reattach seemed more hazardous. The 2-weeks-shorter rehab after the split method was also a factor. Surgeries on each foot were completely successful. My best friend's sister had that and she was a runner. I don't know if they gave her a choice but she had hers severed and reattached. She didn't heal well at all. The incision got infected and they never took her out of a boot. She tripped one day a year after surgery and tore her Achilles tendon completely off. Had to have a second surgery to reattach with a donor tendon. They also discussed amputation because of the infection. She had multiple would debriding surgeries and was in a wound vac. 2 and a half years later she is finally walking again, but will never run again.

Everyone seems to aim for Franconia Notch, and I find it always disappointing. It never seems as colorful as areas north of it. Part of it in my opinion is that it has a lot of beech trees, which just get a dull orange color.

mcglups
Good color on-going up here at Cates Hill in Berlin NH, taken from the east side of the Androscoggin River. My seasonal home up here is hard to find on the picture, but I'm in the lower right hand trees. We've had solid frost with temperatures of 27 the past two mornings.
tamarack
"Only" down to 26 this morning, and less frost than yesterday. Colors are peaking here - yesterday morning featured constant soft rustling as white ash leaves tumbled thru branches on the way to the ground. At least 50% leaf drop on that species, 25% on maples, oaks changing color but little leaf drop. No pear trees here but had a partridge "talking" to me from one of our apples, only 10 feet from me until it spooked and flew off.

wxeyeNH
I wish we could let Phin back in to this NNE forum. He was a great poster. If you just stick to weather all can be good. It has worked well for me these past 20 something years. Is there anyway to contact him or find out from an admin if there is something we can do? Brian, any thoughts? Meanwhile it is getting very dry again. A couple of soakers a couple of weeks ago but my pond is still bone dry. Usually is refilling by now

I found that last year on my trip. The Kanc is always pretty solid as well. This is that area from north of the notch last year: 1

From Stowe through NEK of VT into your neighborhood, then south through Crawford Notch… the best color is like literally the lower mellow slopes around Bretton Woods ski area itself. Even over towards Mount Washington, the lower slopes aren’t as colorful as like the 1300-2000ft elevations around Bretton Woods. Less color in the Notch and south. I think the actual hillside the ski area resides is the best color around, ha.
powderfreak
Crawford Notch, NH today. Just a top 10 type weather day all around. Frosty morning followed by 60s and sunshine all afternoon. 5
borderwx
Newark, looking up to the gap. Been an incredible run of sunsets lately. First full frost for us on the hill this morning. Had a great summer, but this is the best. Not sure I could live anywhere else this time of year. 4

wxeyeNH
Color is coming on very quick in the NW Lakes Region of NH. I think we will take another ride to the Whites tomorrow. With the fropa coming and breezy conditions the foliage will take a hit in peak areas. Stick season is coming for PF pretty soon.

It’s about peak or on the early side of the “peak range” but should linger. I’m hopeful the winds behind the FROPA aren’t too bad on Friday/Saturday.
wxeyeNH
Today we took a 100 mile drive through the Whites. From our house near Plymouth up to Lincoln, over the Kanc, to Bartlett through Crawford Notch then west to Rt 93 and south through Franconia Notch. The foliage was the best I have ever seen it. Not quite peak in Lincoln but everything north of there was. Clear skies today and perfect temperatures. We have not had any rain to speak of nor wind in the past 2 weeks. Usually leaves turn at slightly different times and rain and wind strips some trees while others are not a peak yet. Not this year. I took the drone up in Crawford Notch but I screwed up and didn't have the automatic aperture and white balance setting so the video exposures were not right and viewing the video seemed more washed out than what the eye sees. Unfortunately tomorrow afternoon we have the cold front with wind. That will take down quite a few leaves just as all the peepers arrive. Today was the day for the Whites.

We're on the early side of peak, there will be plenty of leaves left and it looks like another sunny stretch next week. 2 hours ago, wxeyeNH said: Usually leaves turn at slightly different times and rain and wind strips some trees while others are not a peak yet. Not this year. Was driving around the western slopes of the Greens today and thinking the same thing. The colors are phenomenal. Seems like the trees are all synced up this year and turning at the same time. Between that and all the sunny weather it's been one of the best foliage seasons that I can remember.
