Those winds stay calm, we may freeze.

yeah, I think tomorrow is a legit crack at it.  Thurs has a chance as well, but looks to be the start of warming as winds turn to the SW.

Nice cold shot to get us in the mood.  First fire in the woodstove last night.  It was nice.

28 at cabin this am and looking at NAM, tomorrow may be rather widespread frost/freeze even for us that werent considering it down here.

Best panel for maximum effect...aka....cherrypickin.  Wind is already outta the SW, so IMO its almost looking like a CAD presentation as the mtns may lock in the cold SE of them for a bit prior to the scouring to commence.  Just me thinkng aloud...

It seems everyone is going to feel the pain.  I have a mix of electricity and heating oil and the oil is going to be a big price jump for me.  $500-$1000 more than last year depending on conditions. Natural Gas is not available in my rural setting.   My oil won't cause as much as this estimation but still going to be in mid 1000's.  Use about 200-225 gallons a typical winter.

I REALLY feel for those who heat w/ oil, or baseboard heat, and are/were not able/cannot afford to transition to alternative methods (notice i didnt say cheaper).

IMO efficiency is gonna be key.  Hoping my new windows help w/ that.  Quite an investment, but was needed.

Oof. My dad's getting his order of coal in for his soon. Hoping it's not that much of an increase for him :/

I think people around here with electric or oil should be prepared to spend upwards of $1K more this winter.   Not sure how often coal heaters need to refill their coal so hard to gauge there.   I know some people who had $400/MO electric bills for 4 months last winter...those could be over $500 a month this year with the same usage.

I work in this field and yeah, I don't think a lot of people have any idea what's about to hit them this winter.  Might as well take a flamethrower to their wallets.  Going to be absolutely brutal, no matter the heating source.  I really feel for some folks.  The energy markets are just so out of whack, like so many other markets.  A mess indeed.

I saw you mentioned about the trace in Coudersport and sure enough it looks like the Commonwealth received its first official snowfall of the season, with some places in Erie County getting around an inch.  We're off and running.

Is your mower away for good?  Mine is not.

Thinking I have one or possibility 2 mows left. It could use mowed right now.

I go through 3 ton of coal a year. Depending on how cold the winter is.

Cold long winter would really put a hurting on a lot of people.

Well, that is not too bad.  ~$1000 based on your cost mentioned this AM.   As other have said, even a normal winter is going to knock $1000-$2000 extra out of some people's budget with oil or electric.
