This month alone I’ve seen it clear back towards Crabtree Bald, some clouds at my house coming over the top of the ridge and then the Buncombe side be socked in. Yeah just like this Friday was. The microclimate around the mountains are fascinating.
Met1985
I'd rather have 20 and blowing snow but dang it's nice to open up the windows in the house and let the January breeze come through.
Tyler Penland
18z GFS is soooo close to a good storm for higher elevations next Tuesday. So close.
wncsnow
After going below freezing for over a week, we are now on 4 nights in a row of above freezing temps for mby. It was an astonishing 60 degrees at 8 a.m. on Old Fort mountain.

Met1985
Just wanted to say that life is so fickle sometimes and we really do not know how long we have on this earth. At a snap of a finger everything can change forever. With Jeremy Renners accident, Damar Hamlin collapsing on the field and the death of one of the most talented rally car racers ever in Ken Block, don't take a minute in life for granted...

Met1985
The 12z euro would be a storm everyone could get behind but at this point its only fun to look at. Do not take it seriously.
Met1985
Some good stuff actually in the main thread. GaWx has been putting out some great info the past few weeks. The eps has been picking this signal up for the past few days and todays run of the EPS fully supports the Euro run we just saw. All good things to continue to watch for.

Met1985
Even though the 18z gfs was not impressive the 18z GEFS gave us a significant mean snowfall boost for our area. I mean a big boost in the mean. We will see if the gfs goes the way of it's ensembles.

wncsnow
Obviously this is a highly unlikely scenario with the Euro and CMC. However, if we were to ever get a storm like that, this would be the scenario. A massive upper low and associated coastal crawling up the coast throwing tons of moisture off the Atlantic and Gulf piling up against the Blue Ridge and Apps. It's basically what happened in January 2016 and December 2018. Most of our areas 2 biggest storms the past 10 years.

Met1985
The overnight suites are just not warm enough. This is a thread the needle situation in my opinion. Our source for cold air is mixed with maritime junk. This is the problem with having the jet just streaking across the states at a record pace.
