Seattle's Record Heatwave

Recently, Seattle experienced its third extreme heat event (methodology from Clarke et al., 2014) in the past two years.

Embedded in that extreme heat event was that city's longest heatwave on record.

The extreme heat event and heatwave occur at a time when Seattle's summers are growing warmer and the frequency of 90° high temperatures in July are increasing.

Seattle's annual number of 90° days is also rising. Through August 10, 2022, Seattle had 10 such days, which ranks as third highest.

Today Seattle reached 90°, which set a new record high for today. It was also the 12th such temperature this year, which tied the record for most such days from 2015.
