Tramside still bare waiting for the guns, but looks like they are done on northway and should be there soon.

Weekend laps are short but short-lived on the man-made snow with limited terrain, as the underlying frozen surface shows up by mid-morning. Still great to get out there, but I'm definitely ready to show gratitude for mother nature slapping down some natural snow sooner than later.

Exactly. I made sure to get on it early today. First few runs were great with natural snow falling at Stratton. Finally felt like winter. By 1030 it was scraped off and I called it a day

Man, that boiler plate was rock solid at Windham. Fresh snow all day helped but still firm. The sides of the trails had some good snow and it got better during the day but overall they need more terrain and lots of snow.

First day out for the season at Killington yesterday. Some mood snows brought up to an inch by the end of the day. Conditions were fine all things considered but the day was all about stretching the legs. I maintain that all serious eastern skiers should have a pair of slalom sticks for these kinds of days. So much fun!

Of course most think of woods when they think of Jay. This pic made me remember how fun the actual trails like River Quai, Can Am, and Green Beret are.  

River quai is one of my favorite trails anywhere, but it doesn’t matter if it’s snowing 3” an hour, you are always scraping on that head wall.

Wild snow drought for these parts where it can fart 1-3” at least excuse possible, especially early season.

Went 3 weeks without a snowfall over 1”.

It’s a sharp cutoff…nothing south of rt 80, but your old area managed a sloppy couple inches. Terrible drive down the thruway through Albany Sunday night.

Kinnelon, where I lived 1950-71, reported 2.5" to cocorahs, so they're a tenth ahead.

If you were to pick between Mount Snow and Sugarloaf which would you pick now based on the runs you are seeing to ski this weekend ?

I was out in Hackettstown today for work and there was still some snow here and there (though that's barely south of I-80). Was weird going from Hoboken where we barely saw flakes.

My buddy keeps sending me the Alta Ski Patrol board numbers.  Sometimes it’s low ratio graupel at 4” water to 20” snow.

But this time it’s 40:1 ratio fluff.  They are at almost 200” of snowfall this season on December 14.

It’s been a while since we even pulled 18 in 24 hours. I bet the Tahoe numbers have been insane too.

I actually just checked the heavenly site and they are reporting 74” in 48 hours. Absolutely crazy.

Jet lift down at jay til at least Saturday. Bad timing for both Stowe and jay. I know there was a bashing of Stowe on the skiology Facebook group based on total false info by the guy who runs it and the “vail sucks” crew. Wonder if they’ll do the same for jay. There were comments like “I bet they didn’t do maintenance” by people who have no clue. Might be a good weekend to chase southern vt and catskills anyway.

Ha, yeah stuff breaks. Mechanical parts in highly unforgiving environments and ski areas don’t just stock 100% replacement parts on their shelves.

Regarding the differences in skier opinions, a friend passed this along that was funny.

 

I’ve been enjoying the Lookout Double though, going old school and it’s kept the majority of people away. Some skiers seem insulted they can’t get a high speed ride up to literally the same open terrain, ha.

Not ideal to be waiting on parts but at least there’s a lift that still goes there.

How you can be annoyed at riding up a classic double is beyond me.

Been awhile since I posted but congrats everyone on the incoming storm. Ski areas really need it. However I’ll be missing the big snow out east. I just completed a move out to Colorado, west of Denver. Guess I’ll have to change my display name. 

I’m headed to Aspen for the next 4 days and expecting some phenomenal conditions. Buddy skied Mary Jane today and said it was outstanding. Been an awesome start here as well. Steamboat got about 3 feet of that same ultra fluff Utah got in the last 48 hours or so. Anyways best of luck to everyone on a snowy winter back east and I’ll send some pics from Aspen!

Nice to see the HRRR and NAM with 20-30" for Mount Snow and Stratton tomorrow. Anyone heading up?

I'm hoping that since the bulk falls by Friday afternoon Rt 9 and 100 shouldn't be too much of a sh*tshow Saturday AM. Temps should be in the 20s for most of the event which should prevent it from being a total blue bomb thankfully.
