HRRR has been atrocious going back to last winter . It has shown feet of snow that vanished in the last 6 hours. Widespread severe  tstorms that don’t ever form and now this. Abysmal model .. And when it’s all by itself on an island . Don’t bother

To be fair, almost every model was downright putrid with this system. Every model showed significant rain for a good portion of the area within the last 36 hours.

I mean, some models had over 2” here 12 hours ago and we got barely anything measurable

Theoretically it could be useful for convective initiation, but frankly I'm not even sure it's good at that.  Sat is probably better.  I use it for clear air winds aloft though, and there's not much else to use.

You would think so but it really isn't. Although I think it tends to do better when there is a well-defined lifting mechanism (like a cold front or pre-frontal trough) and larger-scale lift. But days in which convection is of the pop-up variety it's not very good. But given how small of a scale we're dealing with regarding the pop-up stuff, even the HRRR I don't think is high enough resolution to sniff out those processes.

I just fire up goes-16 and a regional radar and that usually gives me what i need inside 12hrs or so, I found the HRRR even using the 0z, 06z, 12z and 18z runs to not be that good, I followed it quite a bit last winter and it was not very good until actual go time which at that point IDGAF.

My plants and trees are taking a beating. Sucks. Garden has done well.

First year that i actually got abundant blueberries out of my bushes even with the lack of rain, Those have done well too, But you can already see a lot of stressed trees up here which is quite early.
