We hit 98 here yesterday. 3 years ago today my somewhat accurate weather station hit 100 for what is the only time that I recall. I presume that could be passed on Sunday.

Dry spell has been brutal on plants and lawns. All the lawns are brown and dormant here unless irrigated. The rains of several days completely missed this part of Somerset Cty. I was watching the maps and hoping for rain but we were in a persistent gap with the cells going north and south of us. My raspberries and tomatoes are wilting and I pulled out the sprinkler yesterday evening. I will water other parts of garden this evening.

And now we have voluntary water restrictions on the odd even schedule here. Definitely a dry Somerset County right now.

Up to 83 and dew pints way up at 74.  On the way to a scorcher in the area.  We'll see if any pop up storms brings a brief reprieve to heat and dryness in much of the southern part of our area.  The heat continues through the weekend, soaring on Sat and  Sunday and into Monday (7/25) with highest temperatures likely on Sunday.   Front pushes through on Monday as the Western Atlantic Ridge builds west next week.  Believe more of a Florida pattern with more abundant and frequent storm chances.  Also have to see of some variation of a stalled out boundary sets up near or north and west.  Overall warm and more heat builds west to close the month and likely push strong heat subsequently into the area.

It's the worst I've ever seen it. I water the vegetable garden almost every day, yet the plants look so stressed. Very frustrating.

Certainly. The latest maps have the appearance of one of the hottest summers of all time in this area. I'm not sure we can verify all the guidance, but if we do, we have a shot at the top 5 hottest summers.

Water 2 times a day,  if small use drip irrigation.  Water throughly, 60 mintues at least.

Nasty out there.  DP's will get mixed out some as we progress through the afternoon but for sure one of our more uncomfortable days in progress.

Worse combination of temperature and DP I ever felt around here was the July Heatwave of 1995.  Felt nothing like that before or since.  It was just suffocating.

Anyone remember that?  Was incredibly deadly in the Mid-West.  Combination of T and DP out there was as extreme as it has ever been.

So while hot now for sure we're a ways from that brutal heat.

I do remember vaugely hanging out in different library branches for the AC. That was the year with the catastrophic heat wave in Chicago where over 700 people died. I believe alot of the precautions we have in place now like cities opening cooling centers, and a lower bar for heat advisories came after that. There wasn't the PWS and mesonets networks of today to capture microclimates as well either. We can see now how hot it can get on cities streets where people live, not just in a controlled environment per NWS standards.

Why post these ridiculous MOS'?

Why does the model keep producing them?

I must say I was early in indicating possible record T's with this exaggerated output.     It has some value.

I might ask why T's for EWR are shown.....just to point out how silly they are.        Yesterday with EWR at 94 other nearby stations had 106 and 92 atst.          Now reconcile that!

I was 89 yesterday and  96 the day before because of a favorable wind direction for me.     My thermometer is never in the sun---but heat can accumulate on a  high rise balcony facing westward.

btw: I hear it's 6042K on the surface of the sun.

Just popped up and going northeast maybe?:       I am down to 82* at 12:30pm, high so far just 84*.

90 minutes later:       My T down to 81* but no rain or even sound of thunder here.

Here comes another miss for me:
