Central PA Summer 2022

Nooners....72 and sunny.  Another BN day on tap.  Going to end up the month about 5BN using MDT's numbers with about 2/3 of that being driven by several nights in the 40's and low 50's.    This is my 4th summer back and this month will be ~7 below the coolest of the other 3 Augusts which were all much hotter.   Hit 90 just one day in Aug 2022 while we had 6 in Aug 2021.    Not far from a summer without summer though lots of 80's so not quite.

The irony of what was posted below makes me laugh. It’s all in the mins

If I take a 100 year view of my temps it would not be that sensational as to being cool but when you have an Aug with only one day at 90 or above and 4-5 nights 47-54 its going to come in way BN.   I did not crunch Cashtown's numbers but can see he had 4-5 nights 54 and below (no 40's) and only two days 90 or above so he is probably well BN when compared to MDT's numbers as well.   Counting today he will have had 7 days where it did not reach 80.

August officially goes down as the second hottest ever for Harrisburg, with a mean temp of 78.8, trailing only the 79.1 of 2016.  Also the 8th driest with total precip of 1.14".  I got 2.03" at my house.

Night time low driven I assume (for #2 record).  That is very much HIA driven.  The highs were not that bad even at MDT. 18 or so of the days were AN but most only 4-6 degrees with several just 1-2 degrees.

Pretty balanced overall. Highs were 3.4F above normal, and lows were 3.7F above normal. 14 days were at or above 90F, 8.5 more than normal. And 10 more than have been recorded at Pittsburgh International this entire year.

3.5 degrees AN just seems less than stellar when it comes to historical records.   Hitting 91 when the average is 86 is ho-hum.  My family thinks it was a mild summer and not at all hot (near MDT) and I can't argue with them.  No real super hot stretches.  Just no real cool stretches in Aug either.   Just 30-45 min from MDT the elevated areas had a downright cool Aug.

It just never cooled off - a ton of 90 degree days where it was still 80 at midnight and upper 70s again when you wake back up. Not a scorcher, just a prolonged slog of heat without escape.

Yep, that is my feeling as well.  Not constant extreme heat but no breaks.  I am not a good example because of our big differences over here but my family is in Etters so they were in the thick of it.
