Central PA Spring 2022

It never ends. :wacko2:

Made some adjustments to PoPs, QPF and even snow amounts for
tonight into Saturday morning as a compact surface low tracks
across the Poconos and Catskills. This low will produce an area
of enhanced 850-700mb frontogenesis across and east of the I-81
corridor, and in turn enhanced omega in the 850-300mb layer.
Strong PVA is also rolling into the area by 8 AM Saturday from
central PA. This should allow and band of steady rain to break
out during the predawn hours and pivot across NE PA and east-
Central NY through midday or early afternoon Saturday. Blended
in some of the latest NAM and GFS QPF to the existing forecast,
which increased amounts...with around or just over 0.50" of QPF
possible in the 2AM to 2 PM Saturday timeframe. The other
concern will be for some wet snow to mix in across the higher
elevations, especially when the precip rates are moderate to
heavy. The best chance to see this wet snow mix in will be along
and east of I-81 into the northern Poconos and Catskills, above
1600 feet or so. For the highest elevations up to an inch or
two of snow is possible before the precip pulls out to the
northeast by afternoon. During the morning, temperatures should
range from 33-39 in the area where the steady precip is
falling. By afternoon, high temperatures reach the mid-40s to
lower 50s in most locations.

Looks like another weekend snow event for Garrett Co, MD:snowing:.  Can't make it this weekend but 2 weeks ago was deep  winter out there with 5-8" with daytime temps in the mid 20s . Around here the timeframe centered around the 18th might be a sneaky very late season  wet snow flake chance

April 18-19 , 2012 was a crusher for SW Pa higher terrain. I was there :D

Zones have the S word this weekend :-)

Rain + and 49 here now.  Cancelled my mulch delivery thank goodness.  Wet Mulch is terrible.   The only weeding I could be doing would require a medicinal prescript.  Weeds require warmth.

I’ll take a garden pic in a minute for you

Nearly .75" more than you - not sure if you had a storm during the early to mid afternoon hours yesterday, but I picked up over a half inch of rain between 1pm and 2pm. If you missed out on that storm...right there's a big part of your deficit.

Well I did notice we were missing out on quite a few of the heftier little cells over this way.

Winter weather conditions per CTP this weekend in their morning discussion.

NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
Broad closed upper low centered over Lake Huron early this morning and slowly lifting into eastern Ontario. Moist cyclonic flow over central PA maintaining widespread low clouds and fog with spotty light showers or drizzle. Very little change to sensible weather conditions seen for the daylight hours
but with the cooling temperatures aloft, precipitation will fall
mainly as snow showers across the higher terrain of the west
and north. A light coating of snow is possible at elevations AOA 2200 ft MSL.

Scattered to numerous showers are expected again today with sfc
heating and cold mid level temperatures again leading to diurnal destabilization. Some rumbles of thunder and a few lightning flashes are possible. Daytime highs should only max
out in the 40s which is 15 to 20 degrees below average in some cases.

I hope everyone who enjoys the snow gets in some flakes today.

I remember lots of talk about how the GFS kept kicking the can down the road for fall to start...its doing that with spring now.  There are spurts of warmth, like what is coming next week, but the atmosphere keeps kicking the Jetstream down over us...bringing some of the coldest air, anomaly wise, that we have seen this year.    I am on the "either snow or lets have nice weather' train" so this is just discussion vs. "Yea, I need to keep spending money on heating oil" talk.
