Should it happen this will be the 3rd year in a row we get a very scenic snowfall aftermated April. Measurable snows imby last few years after mid April. Apr 15, 2020: 1.5" Apr 17, 2020: 3.3" May 10/11, 2020: 0.7" Apr 20/21, 2021: 4.4" Apr 18, 2022: ? It's almost becoming comical. It's not common to get sticking/accumulating snow mid April or later around our latitude, but it's been an annual or near annual occurrence lately. 1

Hoosier
RC used the word wonky to describe the setup. As such, makes it a bit difficult to pinpoint where the highest amounts may occur in LOT's area (relatively speaking, as this is likely a 1" to maybe 2" thing in LOT's area). Can actually make a case for it being I-80 or south, but not necessarily a high confidence thing. Does look like some higher amounts could occur over into parts of OH/MI. Eventually, just the essence of stronger heating from the increasingly higher sun angle has to overcome the stupid that has been this upper level pattern for you guys these past several Springs.

The April 20/21, 2021 snowfall dropped 3.5" at Detroit, 4.4" imby, and 5.0" at Toledo but there were reports of 6" in Monroe. The April 17, 2020 snowfall dropped 3.4" at Detroit and 3.3" imby but once again there were reports of 5 to 6" near Monroe. I have a friend who lives in Monroe (which is Michigan's most southeast county) and being that they jackpotted late April snows 2 years in a row I joked, when will 2022s late April snow be. Now it may happen. (Though jackpot should be the thumb). While we only got a trace during the April 27, 2019 snowfall, I recall several inches fell northwest of Chicago. The funny thing about last year's snowfall is that 2021 HAD been one of the few Springs in recent memory where stuff was blooming unusually early rather than late. So what happens? Incredible scenes on a sunny, cold morning April 21st.
cyclone77
I'm hoping ORD can somehow get 2.5" so my guess in the poll thread is correct lol. High-res models have ptype bouncing back and forth between rain and snow here, so doubt we'll see much stick unless we get heavy burst.

I had to look, and the answer is no. Any years there was a late April (or May) snowfall, the year before & after tended to have little or no snow. In fact, only twice has there been consecutive years with with 1"+ snow on/after April 15th! 1911- 1.2" 1912- 1.5" 2020- 5.2" 2021- 3.5"
mississaugasnow
Toronto had the big ice/snow storm in April 2018, 2020 had some snow, and last year on April 20th/21s everyone in the GTA got another 2-5'' storm. Currently Buffalo-Toronto look to miss this one but its right on the line. Every April I'm used to some snow but lately they've been notable events and happening 2-3 weeks into April, not the typical first few days. Yeah, it has been an unbelievable week up there. Bismarck didn't see as much snow (only around 20"), but the cold temps there have shattered daily records. It's even more impressive because the period of record goes back 148 years, to 1874. - April 15th: Max temp 25. Old record was 32, set in 2011. - April 16th: Min temp 0. Old record was 10, set in 1953. Coldest temp so late in the season, by far…as the previous latest 0F or colder was -1 on 4/5/1996. - April 18th: Min temp 6. Old record was 12, set in 1988. 2nd coldest temp so late in the season (min of 4 on 4/19/1928).
