Not a good trend for anyone who want a long lasting warmth. The warm air is sitting at north pole. Cool May means busy hurricane season. To answer your question the EAR and BSR having a run with La Niña. The first two are like the Gulf Stream from East Asia and Bering Sea, always there; then down the West coast to bump into La or El Niña, where I've been hearing La doesn't want to move to it's Summer residence more towards the central Pacific. This is a little old but is the tail end of last Winter.
