ECM with highs in the 30's Mon-Wed

Windy as well over the weekend which has been the only constant this past winter, now into spring.

You know how the gig goes, we'll hit multiple below normal periods throughout Spring and never establish a true Spring. Then BAM, heat miser pulls the plug on freeze miser completely and we're in hell through Sept...at least.

The next two weeks after Friday is a legit spring absolute nightmare from hell pattern of cold, cold and cloudy and cool damp weather. At least as bad as the first three weeks were good.

Hopefully there is large guidance error on eastern troughing beyond day 7 because it looks like a spring 2020 repeat after that mild first 23 days of March.

Some kind of convection came through here overnight between 9 - 10 pm, triggering the lightning detector.  Ended up with an additional 0.13" of rain during that round for a total of 0.62" for the day, and along with another 0.02" early this morning, yields a 3-day total of 0.81".

Currently misty and 43 with dp 43.

Some comparative stats to highlight just how warm our winters have been during the current warm cycle here in Chester County PA. Based simply on the overall rankings (128 winter seasons):
Winter (Dec-March 2022)
  • 26th warmest winter 33.9 vs. average of 31.4 (+2.5)
  • 30th least snow 20.5" vs. average of 36.0" (-15.5")
To underscore how very warm the current warm cycle of local winters have been... of the top 25 warm winters 13 have occurred just since 1980!
Top 25 warm seasons By ~40 year cycles:
  • 1900-1939 (7)
  • 1940-1979 (5)
  • 1980 to present (13)

Hail or sleet in Doylestown.

NBC10's Krystal Klei (on KYW) was noting that N/W of Philly there were reports of graupel so that may be what it was, particularly due to the warmer surface temps.

Other than a passing light shower before noon that deposited 0.01", It's been mostly unsettled here today with the sun in and out and a high (so far) of 54, after a low of 45.  Currently mostly cloudy, with the sun coming in and out, and 50 with dp down to 30 with I'm guessing what is some CAA drying things up.

ETA - traffic guy (Andy Anderson) on KYW in shock reporting what he said appears to be snow in the traffic cams (and the anchor Ellen Kolodziej confirmed looking out her window downtown at 24th & Market -  she just said it was like "snow in Southtown" from the Christmas cartoon).
