bluewave
While record warmth has become the norm around here, Monday into Tuesday will be one of those rare chances for record cold. We usually don’t see this type of unmodified Arctic airmass directly from near the North Pole. The 850 mb temperatures will be among the lowest on record since 1979 for this time of year. 1

Stratwarm advertised by the EC 10MB weeklies in late February? Seems like it, but counter arguments will be reviewed. Might take longer to dissipate this cooler spell than currently ensembled?

Yeah, it was part of the final warming event and record Scandinavian Ridge buckling the flow. The EPS has the record cold potential into early next week with the strong blocking. Weaker blocking and cold during the first week of April. Then a lingering Northeast trough at the end of the run on the 10th. 1

ISP had 16”. There was an area of < 10” that included BDR, JFK, LGA, and NYC. I suspect subsidence contributed to those lower amounts, as higher amounts were recorded to the east and west. If there wasn’t such an area of reduced amounts, the argument about measurements might have had greater validity. JFK had a low of 20.
