Morning thoughts…

It will be partly to mostly sunny but unseasonably cold. High temperatures will likely reach the upper 30s and lower 40s in most of the region. Likely high temperatures around the region include:

New York City (Central Park): 37°

Newark: 38°

Philadelphia: 40°

A general warmer than normal pattern will develop tomorrow and continue through at least the remainder of the week.

Normals:

New York City: 30-Year: 48.7°; 15-Year: 49.3°

Newark: 30-Year: 49.7°; 15-Year: 50.6°

Philadelphia: 30-Year: 51.6°; 15-Year: 52.1°

Can this happen in the summer too, Chris?

Good morning BW, Liberty. My concern, specifically for the heavily populated coastal plain and inland, is the extreme events that could immediately precede or follow such temperature shifts during a humid very warm season. As always …..

Is winter done?

Don't know, but at least the qpf events will be fairly often the next 3-4 weeks. Will timing work for marginal wet snow events, preferably at night so we can be greeted at sunrise with beautiful tree covered leftover accumulations, instead of watching it melt on contact during the day?

Seems sort of early to say no more snow above 1 inch/event, especially I84.

See some sign of attempting to have leftover wintry cold lurking Canadian border toward April 1. For now, time for me to trim-prune-prepare the gardens.

Yup that's it for winter. Get ready for allergy season. Growing season will kick into high gear with temperatures mostly in the 60s a full month ahead of schedule.

Weather wise it looks extremely boring

I usually wait until the last week of March to start the garden with the cool weather vegetables like peas, but there's no point in waiting with the weather looking so warm the next 2 weeks. Might as well take advantage and start early, so I'm going to plant pea and radish seeds early this week. I enjoyed the last blast of winter this weekend with the snow, but it's nice that we're going to get real spring weather in mid to late March this year.

1967 was up and down until the Summer...After an April Fools warm spell it got cold until June...NYC very rarely gets below 60 in July or August like it did in the past...in the Summer I can see highs range from 100 on a clear day to a cloudy 70 a few days later...minimums would be near 80 to near 60...

The only worry if we get an early bloom is a late season April cold shot.

That's why it's good to wait until we're in the clear.

No question about that. When I talk about early planting, of course I'm talking about cool season vegetables that can take frost/freeze. For sensitive stuff that can be damaged by frost like tomatoes, it's important to wait until early May in our area.

Even though model forecasts beyond 2 weeks are very unreliable, the Tropical Tidbits CFS is much warmer than the Weatherbell version. This is on top of the CFS being the least reliable model out there.

This was a blob of snow over MN this morning and moved across through the day. I'm actually surprised it held together all day. I've been looking forward to it getting here since early this morning.
