mob1
Everything caked in ice, temperature actually dropped over the last 30 minutes or so and is back down to 31.7 Models were mostly too cold aloft and too warm at the surface. NYC and LGA are at 31 as well.
ForestHillWx
Everything caked in ice. A few pine limbs are down. Just lost power. Temp stuck at 29.
jm1220
Temp ticking up to 31 now. The ice accretion helps it warm up-the freezing process releases heat. Seeing the heavier rain run off but most surfaces here are totally iced up.
wthrmn654
Idk what's falling but it's nasty painful to the ears, sleet wise and my fingers hurt lol from print the salt spreader on truck just now at work. Off last 2 days and I assumed we wouldn't get much at all, if course always opposite when you don't prep lol

Fortunately with it raining as hard as it is, the temperature at 31.5 is low enough to cause ice but much of it is running off and not freezing. ForestHillWx
I just walked the yard here, at least .25”, maybe more. Limbs were snapping as I walked; that was slightly hair raising.

HVSnowLover
31 with ZR. Still lots of sleet on the side streets. Don't think it ever went above freezing here yet. Looks wintry out, would have preferred more sleet and less of a ZR event but oh well.
HVSnowLover
All the models busted too warm at the surface (not shocking) NAM won on the upper levels, I feel bad for the Mid Hudson region getting shafted.
wthrmn654
So much freezing rain happening now with sleet. Moderate to heavy! Had to get out to check if it was droplets or ice forming in the trees lol

That was always an iffy area even though maybe up to Albany might’ve gotten shafted. The I-84 area was always on the bubble and lost out from the inevitable warmer trend at the mid levels on these. rclab
Good morning all. Rain at the moment with light sleet accumulations in evidence. Ref: NWS, CPK, 31 degrees with unknown precipitation type (?) all other NYC Stations report freezing rain. 9:51 total liquid, .73. Below are photos of the sleet accumulations on the postage stamp and environs. Stay safe and warm, as always ..

A couple degrees colder and it would've been a major problem. Yeah it worked out pretty well for our area. Not cold enough for the freezing rain to cause very serious problems, but a beautiful scene with the trees coated with ice. I know most people don't want ice, but it's one of nature's most beautiful scenes.

If the primary is tracking into upstate NY it is over for significant snow south of I90 unless there is a cold deep airmass out ahead that could support significant front end. You aren't that far north but pretty far west so yes it would make sense you'd do better MLK day storm where the gradient was more SE to NW as opposed to south to north. Also that storm had a very cold airmass in place, it was in the single digits that morning and a colder entrenched airmass aloft as well, even the city started with a few hours of snow.
