Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches for a storm total of 9 to 17 inches. * WHERE...Portions of central, northeast, northwest and southern Vermont and northern New York. * WHEN...Until 7 PM EST this evening. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Another round of light to moderate snow will develop this afternoon and will continue into early this evening. Snowfall rates in this next round of snow will range from a half of an inch to an inch per hour and will likely impact the evening commute. Snowfall will taper off quickly after 7 PM. It's picking up nicely with radar blossoming well to the WSW. I just finished shoveling and it looked like 1/2 - 3/4" per hour rates. I'm at 13.4" as of 2:30pm. In fact, they were already in the 20s yesterday afternoon. Nuthin' but flakes.
PWMan
Not a single flake of snow here; sleet of varying intensity all day with surface temps in the low 20s. Maybe an inch of accumulation?

Damage In Tolland
Maybe Will’s 12z Reggie was onto something for tonight. Radar is blossoming nicely out in C PA into Upstate NY as the trough sharpens . By the time that gets into SNE column should be cold enough for snow provided it holds together
wx_observer
It's a bonus when just enough freezing rain mixes in with the sleet to turn the slushy ice pellets into a solid mass. The main roads in Worcester are looking gnarly right now. Looking at the trees, we've been getting quite a bit of freezing rain here. I tried to get a photo out the window, but the screen is iced shut.

wx_observer
Does higher elevation in an event like this make it more likely to have freezing rain instead of sleet? In that there would be less cold air near the surface to allow a refreezing into pellets?
Yukon Cornelius
27/26 - pellets falling here and there, but that's about it.

DavisStraight
Been going back and forth between rain and light snow, just as I thought I took a ride 5 miles to a high spot in the next town and it was all iced up, roads were pretty icy too. walthsnow
Gnarly cleanup in Framingham. Had a push shovel and tried to cut down through the sleet and ice to curl it all up in one big push. Definitely one of the stranger storms I’ve been in up here.
ineedsnow
I would say 80 percent sleet 20 percent snow now after going over to 100 percent snow earlier
