I'm laughing because the point is just off the call I made a few days ago, which goes in and out of style depending on which model I'm riding at the time

 

Not too into the lake here with this one but intrigued by a northern fgen band

I keep remembering this winter one of these forecast originally in NIL and it ended up in southern WI. Not 100% but pretty sure it happened.

Have noted a bit of a northward shift of the general forecast placement of axis of maximum 700 mb f-gen. So immediately on the warm side of the f-gen you might get a solid northern band as long as the dry air issues aren't too much to overcome. The location of mesoscale banding is one of the most challenging of many challenging elements of winter weather forecasts.
