crossbowftw3
Still holding shockingly well between 32-35 depending on where I look with relatively no signs of icing where I’m at in Sullivan. It’s 100% a whole different story at elevations…

CPcantmeasuresnow
The beauty of the HV in cases like this, Snow pack still a solid 6 inches, 30° and freezing rain. Trees are ice covered and I'm only 50 miles NNW of Midtown. The bad part, driveway is like an ice skating rink and nearly killed myself taking garbage to the end of the driveway.

jm1220
Huge temp gradient already showing up on Long Island. 36 in Bayville, still 50 here maybe 15 miles away.
Shades
CAA on a northerly flow is notorious for abrupt temperature drops along the HV and points south. Consider the topography of the Hudson River and the relatively unimpeded flow for air to funnel south. In contrast, when CAA is on a northwesterly flow, it must traverse higher elevations of the Catskills/Poconos, and points NW, leading to a more gradual transition, often with drying/downsloping. This is a classic Hudson Valley FROPA for the area - it's almost like a backdoor coldfront.
jm1220
Can also see the front advancing pretty clearly on the OKX and DIX radars.

jm1220
Next question will be how fast we can get below freezing behind the front. That’s lagging a bit. SW CT behind the front is still above freezing. Freezing line looks to be roughly the Tappan Zee Bridge.
