NorthArlington101
But how worried should we be with the temperatures leading up to the event. It is not like the freezing rain is coming into cold air.I mean the consequence from the cold push being less vigorous is that DC is only getting down to 30 instead of like 26 at 00z — it’s trending less impactful in the metro on the GFS, imo

Other models key in on this... gfs on an island. Same issue 1/20.

By that logic, no cold front would ever make it into the Mid Atlantic in the summer.

This is not like our typical CAD setup I believe. Once again I could be wrong. But cold air is cold air, whether it's bleeding in or draining away. If you're referring to surfaces that are already cold due to cold preceding the precip, then that makes some sense, but that liquid will eventually freeze as the temps fall, and evaporative cooling will help with the process of falling temps. Quasievil
So much discussion over cold/not cold. I say let's get a storm here first and worry 'bout that later. Plus, DT said it so.. yeah.

Baltimorewx
Let me ask something here...if the 850s are still above 0c and the mid level thicknesses are still rather warm, what is making the surface be able to get so cold on some of these runs?
