But how worried should we be with the temperatures leading up to the event.  It is not like the freezing rain is coming into cold air.

I mean the consequence from the cold push being less vigorous is that DC is only getting down to 30 instead of like 26 at 00z — it’s trending less impactful in the metro on the GFS, imo

Once again I could be wrong.

But cold air is cold air, whether it's bleeding in or draining away. If you're referring to surfaces that are already cold due to cold preceding the precip, then that makes some sense, but that liquid will eventually freeze as the temps fall, and evaporative cooling will help with the process of falling temps.
