Congrats to the Toronto folks.  Most snow storm forecasts for T.O. fail, so nice to see this deliver for you guys.  Must be chaos there now.  I can only imagine the 400 series highways right now.

I checked the traffic cams and the highway was abandoned about 30 minutes ago.

Yeah no storm from 2007-08 was like this. But it's a hard bet with Feb 2013. 8 straight hours of heavy snow at YYZ with that storm.

The totals will be much higher with this storm, I think.

The only other times I experienced snow like this was when I lived in Ottawa: December 16, 2007 and March 2008.

I think even London is scoring with this storm, no?

Yeah my friend had to go into the office today to pick up some paper work. Normally takes him 15-20 minutes via 427 but he's still not there and it's been an hour.

Which explains why EC issued a blizzard warning. A near perfect set up and purely synoptic. Another 6-8" is definitely possible.

Did the Toronto station (the one that went back to the 1800s) stopped reporting?

Manual snowfall measurements at the downtown TO station at the University of Toronto stopped after the 2016-17 winter season. The automated station at the same location is still there and it takes temperature, precipitation and snow depth readings.

Oh okay thank you for clarifying. Is there a reason why manual measurements stopped? Budget constraints? Would've been cool if they continued especially for a storm like today.

Are people staying home today?  There’s a show on The Weather Channel here called Heavy Rescue 401 that basically follows heavy wreckers as they clear accidents on the 401 in Ontario. They state that the 401 in Toronto is the busiest highway in North America.

It snowed for a couple hours last night and then basically nothing for the night.  It started up again around 6 this morning and has been going since then.  We maybe have 5-10cms for the storm so far, so not a total fail.   We are basically a synoptic wasteland here, so reading the comments from the Rochester/Syracuse folks it's easy to relate.   The comments on here are great!  I used to follow the Lakes subforum, but it's been highjacked by the Chicago weenies, so I think I'll spend a lot more time here.   At least we can share LES futility sagas.

Most people have been working from home since March 2020, including me. Schools are all closed today.

They say it's the busiest highway in the world.

Budget constraints at Environment Canada. A number of other stations have stopped manual readings over the last few years, including the Environment Canada headquarters at Dufferin St. and Steeles Ave. in North York (north Toronto). Nav Canada operates the first order stations (eg YYZ/Pearson Airport) and EC relies on the volunteer observation network for measurements/readings.

Not even a inch here in Hannibal, all i heard all night was ping, ping, ping on the windows and still hearing it. Forecast was way off for my area lol.

Yeah, the upgrade to WSW didn't work out here but whatevs. Tough to do a beach forecast for SYR area when everywhere else gets pounded. Hell Albany doubled us LOL.

Golfing this evening. Indoors.
