KyleEverett
In Charlotte, it seems to be Mount Holly in Gaston County as the bulk of it. I'm really surprised York County south of Charlotte doesn't have more with as much ice accretion we have so far.
StantonParkHoya
The wake county gradient is really impressive. From the swamplands of Clayton to the ridges of Wake Forest.

Looks like we have finally switched to mainly sleet. GSP had cut my totals to 1.5 in. Score one for the HRRR. I heard anywhere from 4-7” in Taylors. I did 3 different measurements of 5”. Matter of fact, had to go on the roof to clear the satellite dish. I thought I was on the bottom step, but i5 was the 3rd step…I busted my tail…then made a snow angel and laughed at myself! We made the decision to ride out the storm in Black Mountain, so I’m curious what conditions are back home. It’s windy up here with steady snow. Take some good measurements for me. I’m in NW Hickory too, so I’ll use your backyard totals for my stats since I can’t take them myself. 3.5 already is great! Hopefully, you can keep that transition line to your south and east.
JoshWeather
about an inch of snow i'd guess in n. durham...transitioning to sleet only over the last 5 minutes. Got my daughter out to play in it for 10-15 minutes before the rains come.
Tony Sisk
This has been pretty much perfect for the I-85 corridor in SC. The heavy precip that fell from 2:00am to 7:00am was ALL Snow. The precip that is falling now is very light, but a mix bag. Not sure how much wrap around snow we will get…but it appears the nasty stuff is going to be light.

wxduncan
Mesoscale Discussion 0075 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0742 AM CST Sun Jan 16 2022 Areas affected...Northern South Carolina...North Carolina...Southern and Central Virginia Concerning...Winter mixed precipitation Valid 161342Z - 161945Z SUMMARY...Heavy snowfall with rates exceeding one inch per hour will be possible across the southern Appalachians and Virginia Piedmont this morning from western North Carolina into southern and central Virginia. Freezing rain or a changeover to freezing rain is expected from parts of northern South Carolina northeastward into southeastern Virginia. DISCUSSION...Water vapor imagery shows an upper-level low moving eastward across the central Gulf Coast states with divergent mid-level flow located across southern sections of the Eastern Seaboard. A plume of mid-level moisture is located across the Carolinas and Virginia, where widespread precipitation is ongoing. Temperatures are currently below freezing across much of the southern Appalachian Mountains, where snow is being reported. A few locations have exceeded one inch per hour snowfall rates. As large-scale ascent spreads northeastward ahead of the upper-level low, the potential for heavy snow should increase across parts of western and central Virginia. Further to the east, temperatures are also below freezing across much of the North Carolina Piedmont. In this area, freezing rain is being reported in many locations due to a low-level warm layer that is forecast to spread northward into southeastern Virginia later this morning. In response, freezing rain should continue across parts of central North Carolina. Snow should gradually change over to freezing rain across much of southeastern Virginia this morning. ..Broyles/Edwards.. 01/16/2022 1 1
