Midwest/GL/OV/ON Snowfall Totals to Date

CVG has to be in the top 10, but I have yet to find any info about that from ILN's website either. Still searching...

CVG finished the month with 16.6" of snow. There are questions as to how that ranks for the snowiest December. I've spent most of 2010 ranking climate data for Cincinnati going all the way back to 1858. So according to my records, December 2010 ranks 2nd for the snowiest. However, ILN issued a monthly summary for CVG and at the bottom of the summary it ranks CVG as having the 4th snowiest Dec. In that summary it says records are from 1869-2010. I local met in town posted on facebook snowfall amounts going back to the 1840's as being part of the ranking, which would put 2010 at #4, but the question is, are the records from the 1840s official data or not.

I've been communicating with one of the guys at ILN about snowfall on December 16. They said Cincy had a record snowfall for the date, and I've questioned it. I have the snowfall record being in 1883 for that date, which also happens to be the year of the snowiest December on record (17.5") They told me that they didn't have snowfall records beyond 1890.

So to make the long story short, Cincinnati was definitely in the top 5 for the snowiest Dec on record. The question remains, was it #2 or #4.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering where CVG may have ended up.

Wow. Look how much snow they've gotten in Germany.

Pretty sweet when your seasonal snowfall total can be at less than 50% of normal in mid January and still have recorded 33+ inches.

Muskegon MI has made a hell of a run towards respectability, after bottoming out at a -26.3" snowfall departure to date on 1/2, using the Monday update method. Of course 47.6" of snow so far this January helps a lot.

12/5: 7.1" (-4.9")

12/12: 12.4" (-5.5")

12/19: 12.5" (-12.2")

12/26: 13.8" (-18.5")

1/2: 14.0" (-26.3")

1/9: 28.0" (-20.5")

1/16: 39.1" (-18.0")

1/23: 61.4" (-2.4")

We sure have improved our totals! November and December were crap and January has been very good here. The fact that we've gotten over 48 inches of snow this month and are still below avg. shows just how much the first part of winter sucked here (thus my whining then). We have a deeper snowpack now than most areas in the Lower Penin., as well as many areas of the U.P.!

I certainly don't follow the weather up there, but it seems like their totals hardly gone up when I do these updates. Maybe a reporting error?

Across the river in SSM, Ontario the total through Jan 31 is 70.8" so something is definitely a little fudged up with the Michigan side. Unless there have been some super localized LES on the east side of the St. Mary's River.

Yeah that one I don't get especially with Marquette cashing in nicely.
