George BM
Another year over. A new one begun. What weather event stood out most to you? 2021 was not too memorable IMBY. I have two honorable mentions though. 1.) Mid/late February sleet storm which had some garden pea to marble-sized ice pellets. (0.25"-0.5" diameter) I got approximately 1.0" of sleet from it. It has nothing on the V-day 2007 sleet storm here but it was more impressive than usual sleet-wise nonetheless. 2.) The April 30, 2021 wind event. Gusts over 50 mph with the line of high-based gusty showers that moved through that afternoon. (9-10C/km low-level lapse rates FTW)
SnowenOutThere
Mine would probably be the midnight supercell over the summer associated with the hurricane remnants. Also had another good thunderstorm with trees down. The wind storm you mentioned too. Not really the weather but the cicadas were interesting.
MN Transplant
Hands down the August 11th microburst in the NW DC Beltway. 59mph on my anemometer before we lost power and the best gusts came through. 6+ houses within a few blocks hit by trees and uninhabitable. More damage than the derecho locally. I’ll give a runner up to the Arlington tornado.
Rhino16
Probably just some thunderstorm in the evening. Maybe one with a very close lightning strike that looked pretty cool.
NorthArlington101
99% sure it’s gonna be the Arlington tornado for me… couplet formed right overhead, (perhaps unwisely) went to get a look at the damage that night. Probably the closest I’ll ever want to be to a damaging tornado in the suburbs. Two distant runners-up: 1) Feb. 11 southern slider snow in Charlottesville 2) Ida remnants in Charlottesville with tornado, flash flood warnings
WinterWxLuvr
The 50” snow at the end of January. If you don’t remember it, just ask the RGEM.
PrinceFrederickWx
Back-to-back ice storms of 2/13 and 2/19.
