Hurricane Agnes Posted January 7, 2022 Share Posted January 7, 2022 I had posted this in obs but re-posting here on the SWE calculated from the Stratus gauge collected snow - Quote Did bring the Stratus in to get a water equivalent from what was collected in it (sometimes I'll do a core sample but there wasn't much wind out there overnight). Planned to add warm water to melt it faster once I brought it in but it had almost melted after about 15 minutes inside (but I still added some to get the rest of it finished off) and came up with a 18:1 ratio which makes sense considering how dry it was doing the depth measurement and how fast it had disintegrated in the outer cylinder even before adding anything. Just busting on ya...I knew you would call out the 8-10"'. As Redsky mentioned I remember him from his cabin in the poconos (or something like that) but this wasn't the storm for him. He made out when our area went snow to rain/sleet and he was piling up snow. Snow blowing off rooftops, cold, looks/feels like winter. Tues highs in the low 20s... The Profile offers a field to include a "Location" and literally everyone in this thread (other than one person who did an obs from wherever they were) has something in there except you. I just got in from clearing the snow off my SUV (big job thankfully handled very well with the use of a big new Christmas present - an extendable 60" snow broom/brush/scraper that did a good job clearing the lightweight snow). Lots of powder blowing around out there and am still warming the poor fingers (the isontoner gloves are good for driving but probably needed something warmer for what I just did). Its been a long time since we have had a nice ice storm and this storm as all the earmrkings of more than .25 in of ice accretion in some areas. I would expect Mt Holly to issue WWA by tomorrow afternoon for Sunday morning but I would not be surprised at all if it is upgraded to a winter storm warning for freezing rain for some areas. The CAD is really strong IMHO and is typical in this type of weather pattern. The freezing temps will have a very difficult time getting scoured out of the valleys, especially with the fresh snowpack. Tonight , everything will freeze solid- slush and all with lows near the single digits in some areas in the LV in the deepest valleys. The sun can only melt so much on Sat. That sets up perfect conditions for Saturday night. The skies will remain clear until about midnight. The temps will fall like a rock before things cloud up and will be in the upper teens and low 20's when the precip starts to fall -- first as a period of sleet/maybe snow pellets mixed in, then freezing rain throughout Sunday morning after sunrise. It will take almost all day for the cold air to get scoured out of the LV. The the arctic front comes through late Sunday night changing the little bit of warm rain back over to light snow with a flash freeze for Monday morning. Then the snow squalls reach us on Monday afternoon , especially in the northern parts of the LV.
