Showers are moving northward into our area and with frozen ground and subfreezing conditions, it could become quite slippery on untreated surfaces in some spots along the I95 corridor just southwest to north of NYC. The National Weather Service has advisories posted.

Added NYC 550AM as well per obs below. Also some snow mixed at the start nw NJ thru se NYs, W CT, WMA.

You can include the city itself in that currently. On the uws currently sleet and freezing rain mix. Paved surfaces with a crunchy glaze. Not sure how long we can hold on to this.

This is a mess. I live on a dead end and the cross street is a 20% grade below and nearly 30 above. There were a half dozen cars scattered with 3 in yards. No real damage because they all stopped right off the pavement but the street wasn't even walkable. There was a cop here and he had to walk up a block from the bottom to direct the salt truck and stop more cars from turning onto the hill.

It looks better now but it just rained hard for a few minutes and it's still 31°.

And jump from 26f to 36f 156am-256am.  Did that S 6 really advect in higher T/DP air?

Drop fron 41f to 36f occurred with winds shifting to NW 8.

Or ASOS temp/dp fail?

Site was AUTO, so not augmented

Sorry, corrected for typo-should have been 33f and not 36f.

KISP T Drop fron 41f to 33f occurred with winds shifting to NW 8.

There was some sort of boundary in the area that I wouldn't have expected to fluctuate towards the colder at that time.  I looked at a PWS just west of ISP and it did not bear out the ISP readings, but looking at another PWS just east of ISP, it did:

Windshift and rapid cooldown was probably not an ASOS error. So there's how far west the initial push of warm air got before backing off.  We didn't get to freezing until after 8:30AM here.  It was dicey on the steps in front of the house, although the road seemed fine.

Up to 41 as of 12:40.
