Went to Cambridge yesterday and though I was able to spot the snowy owl that’s wintering there, he was very shy and hid from his audience. Attached a couple others too.

GREAT pics, and I love the snowy owl! He's totally, "Dude....I'm not showing any more than this."

Thanks, man. I just bought a waaaay too expensive lens for myself (you’re only drunk and 59 once), and yesterday was the first time trying it out. The owl was probably 75 yards away and that was too far for any chance at sharpness.  The heron was closer but I’m impressed with how well the lens handled it. For perspective, here’s a phone photo of the heron that was taken by a buddy standing next to me.

I've eyed up some of those way expensive lenses as well since we finished up paying college tuition a couple years ago -- :D -- but I haven't bit the bullet yet. Plus, I'm getting lazier about pulling out the Nikon to get the better/best results and have been relying on my mobile phone cam to capture life's little moments.

Been snagging some good results, too, after upgrading to Pixel 6 Pro in October. If I happen to have my tripod and phone clamp with me, in fact, sometimes I can get heron-on-the-rooftop levels of zoom with the P6P such as you've shared here.

We got just shy of 1" here, between late Friday evening and early Saturday morning...not nearly as exciting as parts of MD/VA east of the bay, but it DID whiten the ground, without creating an inordinate amount of extra shoveling for us old folks, and THAT makes for an optimal snowfall...at least in my book. :)

I was down at the Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary (southern AAco) this morning with the fam and it was stunning. Looks like about 3" fell there. No one else was around!

Jug Bay is awesome. I’ll be down that way in about six weeks for the yellow perch run.

Photo isn’t from the local area but I am. Drove to Watertown, NY, to see some deep snow. Fished for steelhead in single digit temps, snowshoed on Tug Hill plateau, and took some sunset pics on Lake Ontario in -18 temps. These are the drifts along the shore on Wednesday.

Damn I need a cold 20” snowstorm badly.

Fixed.

I believe you guys will get one, too before this winter is done. I want the Mid Atlantic to go all 'New Englander' with snow!

We need to get stormtracker and mappy and Bob Chill and many others to get annihilated by heavy snow in their backyards for a change!

I despise ice storms now, but man....I love the morning after, when it's cleared off like this, and you get that "halo" effect on/around individual tree branches glowing in the rising sun, as you've captured here. Great shot!!
