If I had known, I wouldn't have picked this place...still kick myself for not choosing Springville. My wife was even ok with it there. But, she seemed more interested in this area. So, here we are. I like your other idea too of just relocating to the high terrain in Southern Onondaga/Madison. Bet you see big differences there compared to the Lake Plain. Driven 81 many times when it was doing nothing or flurries in the Syracuse and Cortland city propers but in between around Lafayette, Tully, Preble it was whole different world. Driven NY 41 too plenty of times and seen big differences in the snow cover around Spafford area.

Yeah, the higher terrain in Southern Onondaga is actually a bit closer to where my wife works than where we are now. I love the heavy lake effect snow bands, but unlike Buffwx, I am obviously an "All winter, all the time" kind of guy during the winter. I know the higher elevations will warm up during thaws as well, but the more common orographic snowfalls and better snow retention are more ideal to my winter interests.

I love being close to the lake as I utilize the lake much more in summer and its nice being close. Also the high dews on summer nights are my cup of tea. TugHillMatt
Nearly 60 degrees at midnight and now light snow falling. I am shocked that after a day of 60 and sunshine, and then a day with rain, 60 degrees, and a dewpoint in the 50s that I have any snow left...but I do. That's as much snow on the ground as 4k feet in the Adirondacks had during my hike over the weekend, impressive. Was anywhere from 45-60". La Nina years are usually the best for the Upper Great lakes. How many below/above average snowfall years have you had up there the last 10 years?
