hlcater
Looks like a 1-3” system out this way on the morning guidance. After this December, even that is welcome.
Hoosier
There are some favorable factors for a period of mod-hvy snow, so there is upside if that can last long enough. Honestly not really confident on a call.

ILSNOW
KLOT AVIATION... For the 18Z TAFs... Upper-level clouds will thicken toward daybreak Tuesday as a storm system approaches from the southwest. Precipitation will arrive at the terminals between 17 and 18Z and continue through 21 to 22Z. Confidence is increasing that the predominant precipitation type may end up as steady snow, especially at RFD/DPA/ORD/MDW, with steady temperatures prevailing near the freezing mark. After collaboration with CWSU ZAU, the outgoing TAF package will feature TEMPO groups for visibility and ceiling drops to 3/4SM and 300 feet, respectively, at ORD and MDW between 18-21Z. Should snow end up steady enough, visibility may actually drop as low as 1/2SM. Elsewhere, targeted TEMPO groups may be introduced with the 00Z TAF package. After 21Z, the snow is expected to transition to light rain showers or drizzle as temperatures warm above freezing, though ceilings should remain at or below 500 feet. Winds are expected to be out of the southeast through the precipitation event. Confidence is medium in the forecast for precipitation type and associated reduced visibilities and ceilings. Chicago Storm
DAB 1-3” most of the area. Only exception likely to be the heart of metro, with probably a DAB, given slightly warmer temps..
hlcater
Would probably go with a WWA for north and eastern portions of the DVN CWA given potential for briefly heavy rates during the morning commute, along with the fact that this will be the first impactful snow event of the entire season. Though forecast soundings overwhelmingly support small flake size out this way, so I question how heavy rates will actually be. Let's rephrase that to "reduced visibility"

So you're saying it's not going to be a world class first measurable snow of the season like Nov 2015 at ORD, when 11.2" fell?

Chicago Storm
Even though its on the low end, its the first meaningful event of the year for Chicago, I don't mind it.Yea, this shouldn’t be a surprise.First event, even if under criteria, usually gets a headline. If some of the snowier guidance works out, some places will be advisory criteria anyway.. 1
