WOW. It's just a giant mess of metal. Most of the time you can see a story in destruction -- this wall fell because this thing fell on it, the roof collapsed because this tree fell on it, etc.. There's no story to that. I cannot imagine being in that town right now.

From early reports, it doesn't sound like Amazon had a warehouse manager monitoring the weather to warn employees and didn't herd all the employees towards the building's storm shelter.  (Did it have one?)   Hours of tornado warns as a line of 4+ almost continual tor warn boxes worked across metro St. Louis for hours before the warehouse was hit.  I'm almost certain Edwardsville was under a tor warn at the time of the warehouse hit.  Pretty sure Amazon was aware of the tornado situation and how it could impact their trucking ops.

It's early, we'll see what other info comes out.  But this may end up being a modern equivalent of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory.

In contrast to Amazon, reports are that the Mayfield factory has 100 workers trapped, but in the basement shelter.

Definitely management fault at the building if true about not monitoring the weather.  If I'm scheduled to work and I see bad weather coming in advance (be it severe/winter/wind)... I'm tasked with informing our managers ahead of time and letting them know.  I work at a DS -- DDC3 in N VA.  Granted, we aren't very likely to have large tornadoes and the such here, but if the situation that happened tonight were to occur here, I'd be on Chime with our management (think instant messaging) at least an hour before those storms come rumbling in talking about whatever threat is coming and making sure we stop work on the floor and get people to the designated shelters before the storm hits or right as the tornado warning is issued if we have long lead time.

Sorry for the soapbox, but that is disturbing and wrong if management was not watching the weather beforehand and didn't stop work or something else.

Mesoscale Discussion 2013
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   0200 AM CST Sat Dec 11 2021

Areas affected...portions of northern Louisiana into eastern
   Arkansas...northern Mississippi...western and middle Tennessee...and
   northern Alabama

   Concerning...Tornado Watch 558...

   Valid 110800Z - 110930Z

The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 558 continues.

SUMMARY...The severe threat continues across Tornado Watch 558, with
all severe hazards remaining a concern. A downstream Tornado Watch
issuance may be needed across portions of northern Alabama into
Middle Tennessee in the next few hours.

DISCUSSION...An expansive line of storms/QLCS is progressing across
Tornado Watch 558, where around 1000 J/kg MLCAPE is present amid a
moist low-level environment with minimal MLCINH. Given predominantly
linear storm modes oriented nearly parallel to the effective
bulk-shear vector, damaging wind gusts are expected to be the main
threat with the stronger storms. Nonetheless, JAN, GWX and HTX VWPs
around 0730Z show long, modestly curved hodographs contributing to
250-300 m2/s2 0-1 km SRH, so some tornado threat still exists with
the more intense circulations embedded in the QLCS. North-south
oriented line segments that are aligned more orthogonal to the
deep-layer shear vector will have the highest tornado potential. As
low-level shear and deep-layer ascent increase across northern
Alabama into Middle Tennessee, a downstream Tornado Watch may be
needed to address the eastward-expanding severe threat.
