I owned a 2006 S40 T5 until a UMass plow totaled it in 2017 with 187k on it. It was great to drive but after 150k miles I found myself spending about ~$1500 a year on repairs/maintenance. My brother-in-law has owned at least 5 of them dating back to the 240. After 80k miles or so you definitely want to have a local mechanic who specializes in Volvo. My brother-in-law drives 90-minutes to a specific garage in CT and I would drive 50-minutes to a specialist for mine. Really learned the hard way about needing a specialist because Volvo electrical systems are pretty advanced. For example, It took me hours of research and then taking it to three other mechanics, before the specialist figured out why I had no A/C in my T5. Ended up being if the outside temp sensor is bad it will not allow the A/C compressor to kick on to avoid damaging the compressor if run in cold temps. That occurred on mine at around 110k miles.

The preventative maintenance/repair costs do add up because parts are not cheap (e.g., a new alternator in a newer Volvo is usually $450-650 vs. $150-$250 for a GM or $250-$350 in a Subaru) and they are a pain to work on since they cram a lot in small spaces, so more money in labor charges.  My brother-in-law's v60 is at about 160k miles and is usually in a shop 3-4 times per year for minor stuff that ends up being a good sized bill each time. They are safe, comfortable, fun to drive, and pretty reliable. That said, for me it is just not a long term vehicle due to the cost to keep up with it. if I were to ever get another Volvo I would get rid of it before 100k.   

 

Edit: I always get the XC and V models mixed up.

Thanks. 100k is about as far as I’d go with any car. Get me to 75k with minimal issues and I’m happy. I expect issues to pop up after that point. 
 

EDIT:  I’m probably about a year out. Just starting to start the research now.

Yup, they are great for that. I go for as long as I have confidence in it. One other note, rodents love their electrical wires just like Toyota's, not sure if they are coated or what. Just keep them away and you'll be good!

My sister puts those anti mice bags in her car because they apparently like her wires. Its a Jeep

They are selling pretty well.  New facility in the Carolinas will be producing a bunch of cars for the US market

Any idea if this economic forecast was before or after Geely purchased the brand from Ford? For all intents and purposes, the brand was bankrupt after Ford ran them into the ground. Great that they are thriving now, love the current vehicle platform.

Probably before. I can’t recall.  I also remember that forecast also called for JC Penney to be gone within a year.  They are still around.

Many years ago, I had access to a few model databases that would allow you to type in an airport code, and it would output the numerical values for the model run (NAM, EURO, GFS ect.). I enjoyed being able to look across a horizontal column and see the various parameters rather than switch between different graphical outputs as is the standard today. It also allowed easier export to excel and a blending/weighting of values across multiple model suites.

I'm aware of the FOUS database, but was looking to see if anyone is currently aware of a provider who still allows for the raw numerical output from the major model runs? 

I used to go Here to look at NAM and GFS numerical outputs for snowfall contest guesstimates...

I used to edit photos to reduce the size when I posted from my iPhone.  I could post what I wanted when I was a moderator with no limits to attachment storage.  I haven’t taken the time to go back and remove all my images since I’m now over my capacity by like 100 fold.  It would take hours to delete all the images, so I created an Imgur account and I upload the images there and post the image link
