Burghblizz
Heavy snow in Cranberry. 24 degrees. Wind driven smaller flakes have turned to big fatties
blackngoldrules
I always worry when I see the flakes this big that it's about to changeover or wants to mix. So far, just giant flakes which is really pretty. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk
Mailman
Back to bigger flakes. So yeah... it's an ever-changing situation down this way.

real
Big flakes and no sleet near Lawrenceville Pittsburgh but not really piling up. Maybe quarter to just under 1/2 inch an hour rates
KPITSnow
I think that the upper levels are so marginal and riding the border that we are going to see constant flipping back and forth. Regardless even if it is snowing it is not ideal for snow growth and rates in general.
meatwad
Back to all snow in Monroeville.
Burghblizz
As far as actual weather and not the weenie fest… When you have a strong 925 jet advecting into cold air, you have the recipe for some intense rates. But might have to flirt with some sleet to get it.
RitualOfTheTrout
Big flakes here too, but coming down pretty heavy at the moment. I do think there is some truth to what you say, flakes start sticking together when they fall through a warm layer. I remember my Dad telling when I was a kid his recollection of the big snows having smaller flakes. All anecdotal of course
Ahoff
Still good sized flakes here, but like someone said doesn't seem to be accumulating to much. Would think after some of the rates I've seen the grass should be covered, but it's not yet.

Yea trying to figure out this back and forth situation. The mesoanaylsis isn't helping much. Temps on there is showing plenty of cool air. Not sure why mix is happening

Ahoff
Even if a little sleet mixed with the snow, it’s a win to me.
