Awesome finish to winter. Overperformed massively and left no doubt as to its status as a warning level snow. Best March storm in recent memory and I’d probably even rank it ahead of 2018 even if the total won’t be as high.

Agree. 2018 was so long and drawn out. I don't think it even accumulated on any pavement really.

This is a pretty darn dynamic storm and the mini blizzard at the end here is pretty awesome.

Perfect, really. The snow came in early enough and hung on long enough that even those of us who slept got to enjoy seeing it fall on both ends of the storm.

What the heck? How has the advisory still not been upgraded to a warning?

I'm in Pittsburgh this weekend. I thought for sure I'd wake up this morning to find the WWA had been upgraded to a warning, when I looked out the window and there was still heavy snow falling. How much snow has fallen?

7.5” officially , prob be around 8” or so by the time it’s done.

Because 4.3” of that fell between midnight and 2am and I presume they felt it was too late to upgrade to a warning at that point.

I wondered the same, they prob assumed it was going to be a advisory level event going by the models when the put it in.

Plus I think it’s been discussed here before that they try to keep their message to the general public consistent. Conspiracy theorists like me think there’s some sort of bureaucratic quality control where forecasters get dinged if they have to constantly downgrade and upgrade warnings/advisories, but that may be a stretch.

I feel like you could tell around midnight this had a great chance of pushing 6 inches.

Not a huge deal, but I agree should have been upgraded.

About 7/7.5 here. I had a feeling this was gonna overperform after seeing some of the models started showing a little tongue of heavier snow into AGH County. One thing that is interesting is how there is only 2 or 3 of it on the roads/sidewalks. Shoveling and driving were a lot easier than expected.

Agreed. Read my post at the time. I would also disagree that the models supported 3-6" by 00z last evening. The consensus was more like 5-7 inches. The GFS, which I posted in this thread, showed 8.3 inches for Pittsburgh.

But I thought it looked pretty clear that we would easily pass the low end of that range by like 2 am, and be pushing the high end by 4-5 am unless the snow started to fizzle out. I mean there was already 2" or so by 1 am, with what looked to be an absolute monster of a band from near Zanesville to Clarion. 40+ dbz were showing up in Beaver County. And snowfall rates under the lighter colors were already approaching an inch per hour, so it was obvious there would be some 2" per hour rates under that mega band.
