LOL at BOSTON

That's the 'other' '78 blizzard right there.   One week after the cleveland bomb.   All my relatives outside immediate family live in Rhode Island.   My grandparents got about 4' in their backyards from that one.   I would have loved to be there for something like that.

That's been my thought. Ofcourse the wind does shit for me anyways and why I would ( without blinking ) take a Jan 67 over Jan 78 anytime for this location. I have seen both back east ( 2 footers ) with and without wind. No wind please!

Welcome back Harry, good to see an old timer coming back in.  Assuming you're still in western MI?

Does this mean that we get our 78 next week? Lol  Even though I would hate those winds I won't pass if it comes with the same total here.

Wow Jan '67, my personal all time best, 28" of heavy wet snow in 24hrs in the NW corner of Athens Co in SE Ohio. We were getting 6" every 4hrs for 12hrs in a row, some flakes were the size of the palm of my 7yr old hand! We have to shovel off our carport roof as my dad was afraid it was going to colapse!

Of course what could be a serious contender for the biggest storm since GHD looks to leave eastern Iowa out. The nearly 50 year 12” storm streak for CR shall continue.

How does Chicago (barring the lake) seem to reel in a 12” synoptic snow every 3-4 years while CR hasn’t had one in 50. It’s baffling.

Yes I’m mad about it

(The last 12” snowfall for CR is April 1973)

That’s wild. I had to look this up. I was a student in Iowa City during the December 2009 blizzard that put down around a foot in IC. Plenty of 12-15” totals around Linn county but the Cedar Rapids airport mysteriously was on the low end with 8.5” I’m sure @hawkeyehas memories of that storm 12-8/9-2009

I recorded 10.5" for that storm.

That's the last December big dog in my memory. About 10"-12" of heart attack paste (imagine the totals with a better ratio!) where I was living just outside of Stoughton, WI at the time. Brought down a tree limb across the top of our driveway, my dad and I both took off work and spent the entire day clearing the driveway.

979.8 MB pressure recorded at Madison with this storm.

Unfortunately maybe spending more time in this thread going forward. Sitting at 12" for the year and seems like NW portions of LOT haven't fared well the last several years.

N of Rockford here, yeah, we had the snow magnet for a time but seems we’ve lost it. Times running out on a nw shift for current storm, but it wouldn’t take a whole hell of a lot for us to be in the money. Still a chance…

With recent Euro trend north and looking more GFS like could see central to southern LOT doing well especially with lake enhancement. Not sure I see us getting more than a couple inches. Generally if Champaign is bullseye RFD and Cary are NW fringe

Hi Hawkeye.  Long time.  I drove through CR this past early summer (on our way to a wedding in southern MN).  It was interesting to clearly see the Derecho damage.  Pretty incredible.  I have watch many of the Youtube video's.  Looked like a hurricane went through!!

Mine has definitely already been impacted. Getting to and from work could be interesting this week. Thankful it’s only a 5 minute drive but I can’t call off.

I feel like I have to check the Euro before going to bed in times like these.  But if I don't fall asleep quickly, then I'll be laying there thinking 'the 6z NAM is coming out soon' and I'll feel like I have to check that.  God what a hobby.
