Hail is only in thunderstorms with high cloud tops, these weren't that it was graupel.

That's Allendale, just west of Grand Rapids. The elevation is pretty close to lake level, at around 650 feet. It was snowing pretty hard about an hour ago and the pavement was completely covered. Looks like it's melting now that rates have dropped.

I have heard that annual snowfall has tripled in that area the last few years after averaging only 1” of snow for the few years before that.  Locals aren’t quite sure what caused the huge swing….

WYOMING...NORTHERN ERIE...NIAGARA...WESTERN ORLEANS AND WESTERN
GENESEE COUNTIES...

A band of moderate to heavy, wet lake effect snow will continue over
much of the Buffalo Metro area this morning. Wet snow will begin to
accumulate on grass, and roads may also become slushy at times where
the snow is falling the heaviest. The band of lake effect snow is
expected to remain nearly stationary this morning before moving
south of Buffalo this afternoon.

This includes Interstate 90 between exits 57 and 48A.
