We know exactly where the thermometer is, in the middle of a grassy area on the river side of the runways. That is probably a big issue. I understand the UHI issue and it’s a big one but I think the water issue is huge too. I think comes into play with the Boston and New York just getting their first freeze. For me, and it’s no biggie to me, if DCA wants to have weather data that is representative of DC, then that temp sensor needs to be as far from the water as possible. BWI has had some respectable minimums over the last 3 weeks relative to the surrounding area. But today only 30 at BWI currently (low of 28) and 27 IMBY.
