cyclone77
Was a fun storm system to watch. Finished with 1.62" here, and that brings us up to 6.28" for October. More like Wettober lol. Kind of funny we have over 6" of rain this month, while we only managed 2.07" for August and September combined. Ma nature, u crazee.
IWXwx
1.91" here as of 7 AM. Picked around another 1/2" this morning. Rivers going into minor flood.
Gino27
Somehow managed 2.88" out of this thing. Thought for sure the majority of it would be north of me, 4.36" monthly total now.

Scorpion
Lots of trees still completely green and others completely changed over and now bare since their leaves got blown off.
Stebo
So plotting out the temperatures for the rest of the month would yield a 59.6 average for the month which would put us fourth place, below 60 (1900) above 59.5 (1920, 1879) and above 59.1 (2007)

Brian D
Very blah weather last few days. Seasonable, cloudy with a few sprinkles here and there. Geese moving hard, too. After a mild start to Fall, reality has finally set in. Onward to an active, and at times, bitter Winter.

WeatherMonger
I'm not sure I like this Baker's attitude..... Heading into the start of next week, the upper flow is forecast to become more zonal. This would open the doorway for another weather system to develop and slide through the mid-latitudes Monday night into Tuesday morning. This is also the first look at possible frost development across a decent amount of land in the central Illinois area, as lows Tuesday and Wednesday mornings drop into the mid 30s Tuesday and low to mid 30s Wednesday. With temperatures falling towards the freezing mark, and precipitation chances Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, we`ll have to keep an eye out for possible pesky white dendrites falling from the sky...but for now we will think positive LONG TERM...Baker 1

I'll take a continued step down to colder, a few "When the gales of November came slashin' When afternoon came it was freezing rain In the face of a hurricane west wind" November storms....and then a real snowy December. The early winter shots seem great, but have really screwed this forum in recent seasons around holiday time.

Powerball
Looks like Detroit might be on track for a top 5 warmest October on record, and possibly the warmest October it's seen in nearly 100 years. Current departure is 60.1*F, and it would need to stay above 59.5*F to make the top 5. Even down here, we're looking at a top 10 warmest October on record. cyclone77
The sugar maples and the hybrid maples have really exploded with color the past few days. Oaks are way behind, with most of them still pretty much entirely green still.
CheeselandSkies
Peak color has seemed about 2-3 weeks delayed this year, likely a combo of mild early-mid Oct. and antecedent drought.
Hoosier
October will finish as a top 10 warmest month for Chicago. In fact, August, September and October will each rank in the top 10 warmest, so that's 3 months in a row. June was also a top 10 warmest month. Chicago Storm
The much hyped northern lights/auroras didn’t pan out last night. The CME was significantly delayed and much weaker than expected, not impacting earth until just before sunrise here and only to G1 storm levels.. OrdIowPitMsp
Today marks the 30th anniversary of the standard bearer against which all other winter storms in Minnesota are compared against. The 1991 Halloween Blizzard produced 28.4” of snow in Minneapolis and over 36” in Duluth. I’m sure @Brian Dhas some good memories of this one. https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/climate/journal/9110_31_Halloween_Blizzard.html

I remember that one, have family in southwest IA (near Shenendoah) that were in on that devastating ice storm. Definitely one for the ages from MSP to Duluth. It's pretty crazy how "the perfect storm" out east happened at the same time.

Here's about all I can find, but you can see satellite loops, regional radar, and surface maps from Oct 30/ Oct 31/ Nov 1. 34:25 min mark for Oct 30th 49:20 min mark for Oct 31st 1:07:10 hour/min mark for Nov 1st- the peak of the Midwest blizzard.

I haven't looked at the maps in detail from back then, but I wonder if something of the magnitude of the Halloween blizzard would've happened had it not been for the perfect storm out east. It's possible that it had some influence on the track/speed of the blizzard.

Partied hard during that storm. Ran out of whiskey, and beer, and was stuck at home with no way to get more. That deer season was tough getting around the woods, too. 1
