...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH FRIDAY
AFTERNOON...

The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a

* Flood Watch for portions of DC, Maryland and northern Virginia,
including the following areas: in DC, District of Columbia. In
Maryland, Anne Arundel, Central and Southeast Howard, Central and
Southeast Montgomery, Prince Georges and Southern Baltimore. In
northern Virginia, Arlington/Falls Church/Alexandria, Fairfax and
  Prince William/Manassas/Manassas Park.

* From Friday morning through Friday afternoon.

* Rainfall amounts around 1 to 2 inches are most likely with
isolated amounts of 2 to 4 inches possible.

* Heavy amounts of rain will cause creeks and streams to slowly
rise, possibly out of their banks as well as the potential for
  flooding in urban areas.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood
Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared
to take action should flooding develop.

One of the biggest tidal flood events of the past 10-20 years (possibly since Hurricane Isabel at some locales), is expected Friday & Saturday. Those along tidal shores should get ready for exceptional tidal inundation!  Tidal forecasts here: https://t.co/Q2WdpDGgIJ https://t.co/LQkL80pzQs https://twitter.com/NWS_BaltWash/status/1453734194501206024?s=20

Bringing this over to the obs thread.  As of right now, the forecast is for a top-15 crest all-time on the Potomac at DC.

Driving by the river this evening near Belle Haven and south along the parkway, river was way high!  Should be interesting in Old Town tomorrow.  High tide around 2:30, will time my drive home around that time.

Yeah might be worth a drive down that way to have a look see. I just biked that trail last week

MG-
My ending guess was definitely high. 3.54” total per my Tempest weather station (no rain bucket).

I’m about 2 miles WSW of Oregon Ridge Park. Once the rain started, it poured here the entire time with a severe t-storm cell directly overhead for about 15-20 minutes. Buckets.

Our power is already out down in Calvert.  Should be a fun day.

Calvert and Anne Arundel schools closed.  East winds this strong will not be good for places like North Beach!

Hartford is closed too. Totally understand with a lot more costal areas to worry about. I am confused about Baltimore though

It's raw out there for sure.

Schools up here closed?  So now we're closing schools for rain.  At this rate they'll be going to July!

I had a VM from our trash pickup (Bartenfelder) yesterday that recycle pickup was suspended due to severe weather.  Wife looked at me and said is there something going on that you forgot to mention?  I said, rain and some wind.

At least for me we haven't had anything substantial rain and wind wise since Christmas Eve 2020.  That was legit tropical storm conditions at times.

to be fair, a lot of your county has costal areas with tidal issues.

Yes it does.

And all this talk of flooding the worst since Isabel is pretty bad indeed!

I've dealt with coastal flooding and creek flooding before, it's why I live on a hill now! ;)

in some places tides will be up 4 feet higher than normal. yikes.

Watching the news this morning they were already discussing and showing water levels. Already substantially higher and flooding in Annapolis and Old Town Alex is expected.

And high tide won’t be until noonish.  Yikes.

Yeah. I guess that makes sense why BCPS closed with the southern part of the county along the bay.
