It is the staffing issue why they arent running the slidebrook lift.  They are down lift mechanics and that lift has 40 towers that have to be inspected daily whenever its running.  That being said, even if they had the staff, the limited snowpack would have impacted when it could be run.

Specifically they were short on staff this summer so the yearly inspection/maintenance couldn't take place. Don't know much about the details but apparently you need a certain level of certification to perform this level of yearly maintenance and of course other lifts took priority. Based on what I've heard, the decision was made to not run it long before any sort of an official announcement.

Anyways, looks like its really coming down out there. 5-6" up high in the MRV as per about an hour ago.

Went down the road for a few laps at Black Mountain and it snowed another 2" while I was gone. We're up to 5" total with excellent flake size right now. This might actually be the best combination of snowfall intensity and flake size of the entire winter so far. Up to 16F.

2" in past hour....3" in 2 hours... so a 1.5"/hr rate.  Flake size got nice and fluffy so snowfall rate increased a lot from the denser snow this morning.

Yeah, the afternoon was solid here at the house as well – 5 to 6” in the 12:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. period, so certainly up there in that 1.5-2”/hr. range.  The snow ratios are much higher now, and that will easily allow folks to get those ~10” numbers that the BTV NWS had in their Event Total Snowfall map.  We’ve already sailed right past that here at our site thanks to the ratios.  I think the biggest ratios will be from this afternoon, but I’ll see what the ratio was on the morning’s accumulation and how it compared to the overnight accumulation.

Event totals: 4.7” Snow/0.42” L.E.

This morning’s snow was down slightly in density to 8.6% (11.6:1) from the 9.4% (10.6:1) obtained for the overnight collection.

Details from the 12:00 P.M. Waterbury observations:

New Snow: 2.9 inches

New Liquid: 0.25 inches

Snow/Water Ratio: 11.6

Snow Density: 8.6% H2O

Temperature: 21.6 F

Sky: Snow (5-10 mm flakes)

Snow at the stake: 12.5 inches

So far in VT.  I'll note that the NWS Employee at 1 SW East Barre reported at roughly the same time I cleared my board and had the same as I did.  I just went out and measured another 4.25" so I am at 10.5" so far.

Looks great! I'm at 9.5" at 5pm, I don't clear a board or anything, that is just what is on the ground before I hit the pack down below. Hope to get past 10".

I never used to have a board to measure on either until I got the weather station last year.  I needed a place to mount it and when I decided to use shelf brackets, I grabbed a piece of white shelf too and figured it would work as a measuring board.  I need to get a new board though because stupid me didn't think about the weather disintegrating the piece of MDF shelf.  Anyway, I took that picture about 3 hours after I had cleared it.

I still need to get a station up and running, I know I've said that a buncha times now haha. I don't even have a thermometer anymore, blew into the snow sometime in January. Just half-assin it over here in West Topsham :)
