I know but what I mean it’s absurd how late the frosts and freezes are going to be this year. Other than Spanker in Southbury and maybe Tamarack and Alex no one has sniffed 30-32 needed . I don’t consider 33-36 a frost or freeze . And now next week looks rainy and cloudy so we lost that opportunity 1

Anecdotally, it appears to me that within 7 days of that date doesn’t negatively foretell winter but >10 days does. That 12/6/09 date has me flummoxed. While it was a frustrating winter, it was by no means warm.

It's clearly mostly solar driven. The small plants here are simply done even though there hasn't even really been a frost yet. The sun is weak right now and goes behind the ridges early, and the plants are shutting down. The bugs are acting really weird. They are supposed to be dead by now. Probably like a human living to 175 years old, just start going loopy and begging for death. LOL 1

Plants need cyclic gestation, and can't do it in perpetuity like that. Even tropical plants have fruiting and dormancy intervals that oscillate. A lot of annuals that people plant for garden hobbies need more sun than tepid slope insolation and will tend to cease growth production. I mean if one wants to define the end of growing season as a hard lined 28 F ice in the bird bath morning than that's fine two.. but by and large, nothing is pragmatically growing anyway. Lawns are green, but the actual growth has slowed down around here anyway - as a direct evidence of this. So while not a hard stopped, ...it's is over for all intents and purposes Yep, it’s why the garden here died weeks ago despite no freezing temps. Everything shriveled up and brown, already pulled from the ground now. Solar matters a lot. The early shadows cast by hillsides and such seemed to kill it before a frost could this year.

There is a palm tree nursery in Cheshire that rents them for the summer and they store them inside in the winter. They have become really popular the last few years at places. I read an article that the guy started it as a hobby and it just took off. His business is booming. People also plant hardy ones along the shoreline that survive year round. https://www.ctpalmtrees.com/
