I’ve never seen them pull the trigger 5 shifts away from an event!!! The wording in the disco suggests at this point it’s not a question of if but how much. They also usually start conservative with totals but not this time!

Curious to see what Jason Boyer’s tune is after this?

.

Jason: "Nothing to see here" :)

Thinking of the scene in Naked Gun when the missile hits the fireworks store.

Had a quick graupel shower earlier when I got home.  Clouds thickening and building back to the west now.  Hoping to squeeze out at inch tonight down here if lucky.

Why is it that warm air can get in here and lower our snow totals but cold air never makes it over the mountains in time? Is it simply that the warm air has an easier time rising over the mountains and funneling in?

Depends on the setup but that feature nearly always shows up in the models with CAD setups and it’s not simply a snow hole in AVL but a stretch of lower totals extending the entire river valley from Madison into Buncombe. Makes sense, all the cold air is dammed up along the eastern escarpment, so any access to the warmer air west of the Apps would cut totals.

Obviously the higher elevations in this region still do well.

Boyer is adamant that "this is not like '93 folks!"

Evidently he's been getting lots of people asking that? I mean it's an impactful storm, but obviously not even close to '93.

Lol everyone puts every storm up against 93. I mean most of the civilians who are mostly interested in a once in a lifetime storm.

By the way, we’re heading to Black Mountain.  For many reasons:

  • Happy wife, happy life.  =)
  • Cousins with whom the kids can play in the snow.
  • (Who am I kidding?  I will also be playing in the snow.)
  • Pretty much guaranteed snow for the duration of the event.
  • 8-inch floor, according to the graphic posted above.
  • Monumental snowstorm experience.

Let’s do this!  Can’t wait!
