BretWx
6z GFS ouch - Sleet storm!
Met1985
Yeah the 6z goes from snow to freezing rain sleet mix at the heart of things. Then wraps back around to finish as snow on the backside of things but snow totals would be drastically cut down.
BretWx
Still feeling hopeful after that EURO run. Everything's still on the table. And we're 90hr out.
85snowline
I'm in Concord but yeah, I may follow suit and spend some time with you guys for awhile. But, as I posted on main thread... For what it's worth. On Sunday AccuWeather has Concord at 31 with snow and "potential for a winter storm". Last night they had me at 36 with wintry precip. It's AccuWeather so who knows... but man it sure felt good to see all snow flakes for Sunday... I know it'll change a few times still before onset, but I'm going to go stare at those flakes for a bit... haha
Met1985
Good Lord over an inch of freezing rain for Asheville. That would be catastrophic.

ncjoaquin
A lot could still change, but give me straight rain over freezing rain at 25 degrees on a frozen ground.

BooneWX
Yea I may have to hop off the main thread. It’s getting muddied with conversations that should be in the sanitarium. If it cuts west, this is still a major storm for the foothills and mountains. With that being said, send your generators down the mountain please
franklin NCwx
The only issue for the mtns would be the 6z gfs scenario. Hopefully that is overdone and we go back to the euro solution or 0z gfs. The low cutting up central NC and VA is fine for us.

Met1985
Really we are due for a significant ice storm. I hate to even say that but it's been several years since we have had one.

You know all about it living around here like me. I think we have our best chance since Dec 2018 this weekend.

Even when it's forecasted the south winds will wake me up middle of the night and I know then inversion is happening.

NavarreDon
Morning folks!, I’m checking in with my eyes on the system. I think the 6Z is over doing the ice for most of the mountains . Obviously the escarpment and foothills are susceptible. Lots of time for adjustments to come. Remember not to get to caught up on one model or run. Don’t forget about synoptics when you look at the big picture. Buckle up for a wild couple days…..my favorite part of winter storms!!!.

Met1985
Looks like this run we getting hammered with some very heavy snow. Some mixing but not as much as the 6z.
Met1985
Im not so sure im sold with the mixing of sleet and freezing rain in our area. Maybe if the rates really lightened up but at the hight of the storm? No way we are going from whiteout conditions to a sleet fest then back to snow...

wncsnow
If you think about climo, the snow totals and mixing areas look about right on the 12Z GFS
