adelphi_sky
Are there any 3D model maps in operation that would give you a 3D view of troughs and ridges, jet streams, low pressures, etc.? And would that view help mets better predict certain events?
Terpeast
Are there any 3D model maps in operation that would give you a 3D view of troughs and ridges, jet streams, low pressures, etc.? And would that view help mets better predict certain events? I don't know of any, but you can probably overlay one map on top of another... say 500mb on top of the sfc map for example. But 3D? I don't know.
heavy_wx
There is a program called vapor that can read wrf-arw files and display them in 3D, if you have a 3D graphics card. There might also be a way to convert other models into files vapor can read. http://www.vapor.ucar.edu/

L.B. LaForce
IDV (Integrated Data Viewer) does 3d isosurfaces, etc.
salbers
AVS used to do this in the 1990s, is there a current incarnation that also works? There also has been within NOAA the D3D add-on for AWIPS that was partially developed: http://laps.noaa.gov/d3d/

Scotty Lightning
IDV (Integrated Data Viewer) does 3d isosurfaces, etc. I second this, but it does have a tendency to crash on occasion.
